A Manhattan man murdered last month was shot in his detached garage, and a third man was present in the home, according to documents acquired by The Mercury. Two Ogden men face charges of first-degree murder and more after Riley County Police Department officers found 59-year-old Don Stovall shot 715 N. 4th St. on Oct. 19. A jury convicted 29-year-old Tristian Gooden-Heit on 15 counts of child sex crimes and single counts of computer crimes and interference with law enforcement by tampering with evidence on Sept. 27. A K-State football player was injured in an accident earlier Wednesday morning in Manhattan. 21-year-old Alec Marenco, who is a linebacker on the team, was taken to Via Christi by EMS for his injuries. Another election in Riley County has passed without any voter fraud issues, an official said. Riley County clerk Rich Vargo said the Nov. 5 general election didn’t bring up any suspicion of voter fraud, nor has any election since Vargo took over his role in 1997. “Voter fraud has to be done intentionally by someone,” Vargo said. “Election security, that really starts with the poll workers, and we make sure to have equal representation of Republicans and Democrats at all the polling places just so we can give folks peace of mind that election security and integrity are our top…

A Wamego man is dead following an accident on Wednesday afternoon on K-99 south of Wamego in Wabaunsee County. The accident occurred just after 1:30 p.m. when a 2009 Chevy Silverado driven by Damon Welsh, 20, of Manhattan was traveling southbound on K-99 and for an unknown reason crossed the center line and struck a 2010 Honda CR-V driven by John Long, 69, of Wamego. Police have arrested a Manhattan woman for committing forgery and identity theft. 37-year-old Sarah Sessin was arrested and charged early Wednesday morning on probable cause offenses of forgery by making or altering a written instrument, making false information, interference with law enforcement by falsely reporting with the intention to obstruct and identity theft by misrepresenting to cause economic or bodily harm with a value greater than $100,000. Sessin was booked into Riley County Jail just after 1 a.m. Wednesday and remains confined as of this report on a bond of $15,000.
