The Los Angeles Rams made K.T. Leveston the 254th overall selection in the seventh round of the 2024 NFL Draft, making the former Wildcat left tackle the third K-State player to be selected in this year’s draft behind Ben Sinnott and Cooper Beebe. The Dallas Cowboys selected Cooper Beebe with the 73rd overall selection in the third round of the 2024 NFL Draft. The unanimous All-Ameirca and KC Piper alum Beebe had one of the most storied careers in the history of the K-State football program and joins a Dallas team that was in desperate need of offensive line help. Beebe was also an Outland Trophy finalist in 2023 and was a two-time Big 12 Offensive Linemen of the Year in 2022 and 2023. The Washington Commanders selected Ben Sinnott with the 53rd overall pick in the second round of the 2024 NFL Draft. Sinnott, a two-time first All-Big 12 selection, was the second tight end to be taken in this year’s draft just behind Brock Bowers of Georgia. Sinnott went from a walk-on in Manhattan to one of the nation’s best tight ends by the time his career came to an end in the Little Apple. TOPEKA — Kansas Governor Laura Kelly announced on Wednesday that she had vetoed five bills related to tax reform that passed with near unanimous support in both chambers of the Kansas legislature earlier this month. In a press release, Kelly called the tax bills passed in the legislature “unsustainable” for the state’s long term fiscal health pointing to previous tax cut experiments by former Gov. Sunset Zoo held its 15th annual Party for the Planet event on Saturday, ahead of Earth Day. Marketing and Development Officer Melissa Kirkwood says the event is the zoo’s annual opportunity to share with the public its mission of conservation. Saturday’s event saw community booths as well as all-day activities like a scavenger hunt, an animal enrichment event and a bounce house for kids, as well as face painting and entertainment. Conservation groups including K-State Master Gardeners were on hand for the celebration. Earth Day officially is recognized yearly on April 22.

A Texas woman was arrested late Saturday on a warrant for distribution of a controlled substance causing death. According to the Riley County Police Department, 21-year-old Dache Island-Jones is additionally charged with two other counts, including distributing an opiate use of a communication device in the commission of a felony. Bond was set at $500,000. She remains in custody. The arrest stems from an ongoing investigation into the June 2023 Fentanyl overdose death of an unidentified Manhattan resident. The Manhattan City Commission on Tuesday revised a recent decision to provide incentives for low-income housing projects, seeking state tax credits. Commissioners debated three options, ultimately selecting a resolution that involves covering the project’s building permit and water/sewer connection fees without specifying the exact funding source. Commissioners had previously opted to utilize workforce housing funds for most of it and cover the remainder with economic development funds.
