RCPD has arrested and charged a local man with first degree murder on Wednesday after he reportedly stabbed and killed a woman in Manhattan on Tuesday afternoon. Officers apprehended 24-year-old Hunter Smith just after 11:30 a.m. in the 3000 block of Arbor Drive after it was reported he stabbed 24-year-old Tabetha Deer of Mountain Home, Arkansas. Deer was taken by EMS to Ascension Via Christi and later was air lifted to Stormont Vail in Topeka where she succumbed to her injuries. RCPD arrested a Junction City man overnight Tuesday at The Links apartment complex in Manhattan. Officers arrested 30-year-old Stephon Calhoun Jr. just before 3 a.m. in the 500 block of Gatlinburg Way on probable cause charges of criminal damage to property with a value less than $1,000, criminal trespassing and intimidation of a witness or victim by preventing them from reporting victimization. Calhoun was booked into Riley County Jail on a bond of $5,000 and he remains confined at the time of this report.

Two Junction City residents were taken to a local hospital for minor injuries following a Sunday evening crash in Geary County. The accident occurred just after 6:30 p.m. on I-70 near milepost 306.7 when a 2019 Freightliner semitruck driven by a 37-year-old Sukhrob Dastanov of Mason, Ohio lost control of the truck due to the heavy rain. He then crossed the median into the eastbound lane side swiping a 2015 GMC Terrain driven by 25-year-old Jalen Williams-Flanigan causing him to veer right into the North ditch striking an enbankment and then rolling over one time before coming to a stop.…

Riley County announced on Friday that several departments will be updating its customer service hours for some departments beginning on Monday. The hours, which were temporarily put in place for the county back in July, will now be permanent going forward. The updated hours will be from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday and from 7:30 a.m. to noon on Fridays and only applies to departments in the Riley County Office Building at 110 East Courthouse Plaza. RCPD officers filed a report for aggravated battery, aggravated assault, domestic battery, criminal damage to property and theft in Manhattan on Friday morning. The report was filed just before 2:45 a.m. and lists a 21-year-old man as the victim when a 19-year-old woman hit him, destroyed property and then took property from the victim. Officers are asking anyone with information in this case to contact Crime Stoppers.

Ascension Via Christi Manhattan announced on Thursday that it has acquired the assets of K+STAT Urgent Care and has taken over its operations on Friday. K+STAT will open at noon today in order to complete technology and operational transfers. A Junction City woman who was arrested last year and charged with first degree murder of 18-year-old Ogden resident Carson Simon was arrested Wednesday afternoon by RCPD. 24-year-old Johnnae Bisio has been charged with single counts of criminal possession of a weapon by a felon, interference with law enforcement and possession of marijuana with two or more previous convictions. Bisio is confined on the charges in the Riley County Jail on a bond of $8,000.
