Manhattan’s new city manager says she’s looking forward to working with local leaders to improve the community. Danielle Dulin on Monday introduced herself to officials from several regional agencies at the monthly intergovernmental meeting at K-State and said she’s excited about getting started. “The vibrancy of this community immediately draws you in and the energy that is here,” Dulin said. “That’s what draws you in.”
County commission chair John Ford on Monday told other local officials at an intergovernmental meeting that the process is moving along. “We’re hoping to have interviews done shortly,” Ford said. The county health director position has been open since county documents revealed that Julie Gibbs was not employed in that position as of Aug. 29. Riley County announced on Tuesday that advanced voting hours have been extended for this week. Voting at 110 East Courthouse Plaza will now be open from 7:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. until Thursday. County election officials believe that the extended hours will allow for more convenience as they are expecting a very large turnout on Election Day. Meanwhile, advanced voting will continue at the Bluemont Room at the K-State Student Union from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. until Thursday with Tuesday being the final day to submit a mail-in ballot. Two were injured in an accident in Riley County Friday afternoon on US-24 just south of Kimball Avenue. The accident occurred at approximately 3:30 p.m. when Joel Schuerman (Sure-man), 19, of Lenexa struck a 2011 Ford F-150 going southbound on US-24 as he came over the hill in his 2024 Kawasaki motorcycle. Schuerman and his passenger – Madeline Bona, 18, of Lenexa were seriously injured in the accident and both were transported by EMS to Stormont Vail in Topeka for suspected serious injuries. A second Ogden man is in jail on murder charges in connection with a deadly shooting that occurred Saturday in Manhattan. Riley County Police Department officers on Wednesday afternoon arrested 31-year-old Antwajuane Jerome McNeil on a range of changes including first-degree murder and kidnapping. McNeil’s arrest is in connection to the murder of 58-year-old Don Stovall Saturday evening in the 700 block of North Fourth Street. The full story can be read at The Mercury.
