Pawnee Mental Health has named a new Military Treatment Coordinator. Pawnee announced earlier in the week that Savannah Lee has been appointed to the position. In her new role, Lee will be responsible for creating tailored treatment plans for clients, facilitating clinical outreach and coordinating care to ensure comprehensive support for servicemembers. Lee holds a master’s degree in clincal psychology from The University of Colorado-Colorado Springs and a bachelor’s in history, international relations and global studies with a focus on international security. The Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) began Phase 2 of its bridge replacement project on K-99 in Wabaunsee County this week. The structure, which is 2 miles south of Eskridge, will utilize the shoofly detour through the project area as construction continues on the bridge. Other surrounding work is expected to be completed by the end of the week. KDOT will use signs, barricades, codes and temporary pavement markings to direct traffic through the area and the work zone will have a reduced speed limit of 35 miles per hour. A Junction City man was arrested by Kansas Highway Patrol on Sunday on a slew of charges. Jermain Johnson, 48, was arrested just before 8 a.m. on K-18 on charges of aggravated battery on a law enforcement agency by causing great bodily harm to a state, county, or city officer on duty, interference with law enforcement by obstructing, resisting or opposing a felony warrant service or execution, battery on a law enforcement officer by physical contact, driving with a suspended license and exceeding the maximum speed limit. Two were killed and three were seriously injured in a weekend accident on US-24 in Clay County. The accident occurred Saturday just before 4 p.m. on US-24 just 7 miles west of Clay Center. A 2001 Ford Ranger was traveling eastbound before it unknowingly crossed over into the westbound lane striking a 2004 Toyota Sienna head on. The Toyota then proceeded to fall on its passenger side in the south ditch. A man was seriously injured on Wednesday in a motorcycle accident that occurred in Manhattan. Kade Schulze, 29, of Manhattan, was riding near the intersection of 12th Street and Fort Riley Boulevard just before 11 a.m. on Wednesday morning when he was struck by an unknown vehicle. Schulze was transported by EMS to Via Christi for life threatening injuries. His status is unknown at this time.

Riley County’s search for a new health director has turned up 16 candidates so far. Officials confirmed last month that Julie Gibbs, the former health director, was no longer employed with the county as of Aug. 29 but would not give details about the circumstances of her departure.
