Manhattan Parks and Recreation officials are looking to present a new fee resolution and cost recovery policy to bring in more money. Parks and rec director Aaron Stewart on Monday said the possible new policy aims to focus on total cost recovery instead of operational recovery, which is the basis of the current policy. Public transit riders will have new routes and new stops beginning next week. The Flint Hills Area Transportation Agency, or ATA Bus, will be introducing a revised route and a brand-new route that should be able to help riders across town. Those routes begin Oct. 14. The revised route will be Route No. 1 as it will be down to one bus while eliminating some trips that “didn’t make sense.” More on this story can be read at The Mercury.
The Kansas Turnpike Authority is warning those across the state of a potential smishing scam, which is defined as a “social engineering attack” that uses fake mobile text messages to trick people into downloading malware or share sensitive information with cyber criminals. Over the weekend, several people received text messages from numbers posing as the KTA saying that they were late funds that needed to be paid. A Manhattan man is being held on a large bond after his arrest on Thursday night. Jonathan Lesniak, 21, was arrested on probable cause charges of making a criminal threat and domestic battery just after 8:30 p.m. in the 900 block of Manhattan Avenue. Lesniak is currently being held on a bond of $10,000 at the time of this report.

The annual Riley County Fall Apple Day is set to take place this Saturday as the military installation will be serving apple pie slices and showing the general public what Fort Riley has to offer.
