Flint Hills ATA Bus officials on Tuesday unveiled the $1 million expansion they say will help boost their public transportation services in the community. Executive director Anne Smith said the work included an expansion of the facility’s parking lot to allow for more buses. A man was seriously injured in an accident that occurred in Manhattan on Wednesday afternoon. Gary Romanski, 78, of Ogden, had to be airlifted to Stormont Vail for his injuries after he lost control of his 1998 Chevy 1500 and exited the roadway striking a tree at the corner of Scenic Drive and Miller Parkway. The accident led to the roadway being blocked off for 2 hours. Romanski’s status is unknown at this time.
Two people were injured in an accident Tuesday morning in Geary County. The accident occurred just after 10:30 a.m. on K-57 at the K-244 intersection 2 miles north of Junction City when a 2012 Ford F150 was traveling northbound on 57 and failed to yield the right of way to a 2022 Ford F150. The driver of the 2012 F150, Lashawanda Mollice Smith, 29, of Wichita Falls, was transported to Stormont Vail for a possible injury after she complained of pain. Six people were arrested Sunday after a fight broke out at an apartment complex in the northeast part of Manhattan. Riley County Police Department officers responded to reports of a fight in the 1400 block of Flint Hills Place just after 6 p.m. on Sunday. There, they arrested 19-year-old Kelonnie Patterson, 49-year-old Antwone Baggett, 33-year-old Daundra Brown and 19-year-old Antwone Baggett Jr., all of Manhattan. Police also arrested two minors. A jury found a Manhattan man guilty of 17 counts of child sex crimes Friday in Riley County District Court. Tristian Gooden-Heit, 29, hung his head as Judge Grant Bannister announced the jury’s verdict on Friday afternoon on 15 counts of sexual exploitation of a child, one count of a computer crime and one count of interference with law enforcement by tampering with evidence. Gooden-Heit in 2022 had stolen the photos a 14-year-old girl had sent to her boyfriend from the boyfriend’s phone. The boy was a resident at a group home where the Gooden-Heit was a staff member. To…

USD 475 officials believe they have “strong systems” in place to keep staff and students safe in school after threats against Junction City Middle School earlier this month. Junction City police have arrested two juveniles in connect to a threatening Snapchat post that listed the names of USD 75 students and staff members on Sept. 13. That was after a TikTok post made shooting threats against the middle school on Sept. 11 as part of what JCPD officials said was a larger trend targeting schools across the state. A teenage girl took the stand Wednesday to testify against a Manhattan man charged with stealing nude photos of her from her boyfriend’s phone. The trial for Tristian Gooden-Heit, 29, of Manhattan began Tuesday in Riley County District Court with jury selection and was expected to continue through Thursday. Gooden-Heit is facing 15 counts of sexual exploitation of a child and single counts of interfering with law enforcement by tampering with the evidence and committing a computer crime.
