An inmate at the Riley County jail died Monday, according to Riley County Police Department officials. Corrections officers found 51-year-old Michael Smith unresponsive around 4:30 p.m. Monday. It’s been three months since a nationwide ransomware attack disrupted systems at the Ascension Hospital Network, and things at Ascension Via Christi hospital in Manhattan are back to normal. Bob Copple, president of Ascension Via Christi Manhattan, said his location managed the aftermath of the attack smoothly because it didn’t experience issues as severe as some other Ascension hospitals. “We have a lot of safeguards in place for our system, and we’re still adding more layers,” Copple said. “I think in our particular case, we did not have the same issues that our colleagues had.” The full article can be…
Kansas attorney general Kris Kobach earlier this week won a lawsuit in federal court blocking the Biden administration that would allow agricultural workers on visas the right to organize in a union. An Ogden man is being held on a large bond following his arrest for battery and criminal destruction to property. 28-year-old Shiheem Reid was arrested just before 1:15 p.m. in the 3000 block of Kimball on Monday where he was charged with single counts of battery, aggravated battery, domestic battery, criminal destruction to property and criminal trespassing. Reid, who had been recently arrested in the county back on Jul. 8 for domestic battery, is confined in the Riley County Jail as of this report on a bond of $15,000.
