Manhattan residents and K-State students returning to town have had their fair share of issues with construction on Anderson Avenue recently. Shilling Construction began working on concrete repairs on Anderson/Bluemont Avenue between 11th Street and Harris Drive earlier this summer, a project that included shifting lane closures and had an original completion date of Aug. 16. Riley County Police Department officials are looking at different ways to fund school resource officers to help save money for government entities like Manhattan that are dealing with fiscal shortages. At Monday’s Riley County Law Enforcement Agency Board meeting, Riley County attorney and law board member Barry Wilkerson said the discussion about funding school resource officers must start now, and that the board should not wait until the next budget season arrives. A country music star is set to kick off a new season of performances at the McCain Auditorium later this year. Country star Aaron Watson will kick off the new season in the McCain Performance Series on Thursday Sept. 5 with a performance beginning at 7:30 p.m. Watson has been in country music for over 20 years and has traveled the country as “country music’s ultimate underdog troubadour.” Tickets can be purchased online at mccain.k-state.edu or at the ticket office in the McCain lobby weekdays from noon until 4 p.m. Tickets can also be purchased by phone at 785-532-6428.

A Junction City man was taken to a hospital on Monday afternoon after he was injured in a car accident in Geary County. Sheriff’s deputies responded to the intersection of N. Madison Street and West 7th Street in Junction City just before 4 p.m. to find a two-vehicle accident. The accident occurred when Ksos Moses of Junction City was traveling north in his 2013 Chevy Traverse on Madison when he ran a stop sign colliding with Ramar Byrd of Milford who was driving in his 2006 Chevy Silverado. Riley County Police are investigating after it was reported that a woman was attacked by a group of individuals in the 1200 block of Leavenworth Street. The report was filed just before 2:30 a.m. on Saturday after a 27-year-old female reported that the group approached her, battered her, took her property including her car keys and threatened her before leaving the area. The woman is reported as the victim in this case. Officers are asking anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers.

The K-State Alumni Association is celebrating a milestone birthday. The organization will mark its 150th anniversary in style next month with a celebration reception at its headquarters near Memorial Stadium.
