Officers on Wednesday arrested a Manhattan woman as part of an investigation into shootings that occurred in Manhattan on Nov. 30 and Dec. 1, 2024, following Thanksgiving. Jessica Miller, 42, was arrested in the 2000 block of College Heights Road and faces several charges, including 10 counts of perjury and nine counts of violating the Offender Registration Act. An Ogden woman was arrested Wednesday evening for a number of driving violations. Officers arrested Eva Cleary, 20, just prior to 11:15 p.m. at the corner of N. Elm Street and Riley Ave. on probable cause offenses of driving while a habitual violator, her 2nd violation and driving with a suspended a license, her third such offense. Officers booked Clearly into the Riley County Jail on a bond of $5,000 where she remains confined at the time of this report.

Judge John Bosch on Tuesday sentenced 20-year-old Darryl Flores-Klemick in Riley County District Court after he pleaded guilty Nov. 18 to charges electronic solicitation of a child, sexual exploitation of a change and unlawful voluntary sexual will relations. Flores-Klemick also pleaded guilty to charges of vehicular burglary and making a criminal threat. Two people, including a Manhatan resident, were taken to Stormont Vail Hospital in Junction City on Tuesday afternoon following an accident in Geary County. The accident occurred just prior to 4:30 p.m. on I-70 just a mile west of K-18 when a 2012 Ford F150 driven by Bryce Morgan, 48, of Manhattan was rear-ended by a 2013 Acura RDX driven by Mary Siemans, 72, of Olathe. Both individuals were transported to the hospital for suspected minor injuries. Morgan was taken by a private vehicle to the hospital for his injuries. Officers in Riley County are investigating after a report was filed at the Manhattan Wal-Mart of a known subject stealing items from the store. While officers do not have an exact date of the incident, it is believed that it occurred between Dec. 21, 2024 and Jan. 2, 2025. Total loss in this case is estimated at $1200. A local man was arrested for driving under the influence on Tuesday. Officers arrested 38-year-old Thomas Scripter of Manhattan at approximately 4:30 p.m. in the 3000 block of Anderson Avenue on charges of driving under the influence and failure to have ignition interlock device in his vehicle. Scripter has spent time in jail for DUI before. In Nov. 2021, he was sentenced to 90 days in prison for DUI along with 1 year of probation. Kansas Attorney General Kris Kobach filed a lawsuit on Tuesday against SARJ LLC, a Washington-based IT firm that runs 13 adult websites for not having age verification on their webpages. The lawsuit, which was filed in Shawnee County District Court, says that SARJ has violated a state law that went into effect on Jul. 1, 2024 that requires adult websites to have age verification on their webpages. A violation of this law would require the company to pay up to $10,000 per day in civil penalties. Similar laws have been passed in Texas, Utah, Mississippi and North Carolina. Click here…
Governor Laura Kelly announced on Tuesday that United States Congress’ passage of the reauthorization of the Water Resources Development Act (WRDA) will save Kansans more than $41 million due to a provision that adjusts how interest is calculated for water storage contracts at Milford and Perry Lakes. In December 2023, Governor Kelly sent a letter to the federal delegation advocating for the provision. The bill passed the U.S. House of Representatives and U.S. Senate with widespread bipartisan support from Kansas lawmakers such as Representative Sharice Davids and Senator Jerry Moran.
