Two candidates are vying for the position of Pottawatomie County Sheriff this election season with the retirement of Shane Jager from the position. One of those running for the position is current undersheriff Doug Adams, a 25-year veteran of law enforcement who has served in a number of roles for the Sheriff’s Office. Geary County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of theft on Tuesday evening. Deputies responded to the 400 block of State Avenue in Grandview Plaza to a report of theft that occurred on Monday in the 1000 block of East 6th Street in Junction City. The report filed alleges someone stole batteries of an electric sign owned by RoadSide Traffic Systems Inc and the sign was damaged in the process. The case is still pending investigation at this time.

Kansas Senators shared their thoughts on Monday on Boeing’s announcement they plan to purchase Wichita-based Spirit AeroSystems. Sen. Jerry Moran expressed his concern over the announcement that Boeing is planning on acquire Spirit. In a statement, Moran said that Wichita would not be the Air Capital of the World without the “extrodinary engineers, designers and manufacturers who have invested in our aviation AeroSystems.” Moran said that he has reiterated that message to Spirit officials and has also spoken with Boeing CEO Dave Calhoun and Chairman of the Board Steven Mollenkopf. Geary County Emergency Management released a statement on Monday updating the status of the storm in Junction City that saw serious flooding and damage that led to the collapse of a building. In the statement, emergency manager Garry Berges reporting that in consulting with the National Weather Service in Topeka that winds got as high as anywhere from 80 to 90 miles per hour. Berges said that NWS believed that the straight line winds caused the damage and there were also some reports of roation west of Junction City but nothing that would form a tornado. Every year on the weekend before the 4th of July, the Randolph PRIDE event is always the town’s most attended event as the town celebrates freedom with a number of events that brings the town together and several from across the region. Randolph PRIDE is headlined by its antique car show. Two accidents occurred over the weekend across the listening area. The first accident occurred in the afternoon just before 3 pm on Friday in Riley County just west of Manhattan near the Manhattan Regional Airport at the K-18 and Scenic Drive roundabout. The accident occurred when 22-year-old George Watson of Manhattan was trying to manage the roundabout in his 2024 Kawasaki motorcycle. The driver of a 2014 Ram truck, 74-year-old Frank Rensing of Manhattan failed to yield the right of way and entered the roundabout striking Watson in what was a suspected hit and run.
