In a report from ESPN’s Pete Thamel, the Big 12 Conference is looking to sell its naming rights to a title sponsor that could generate the conference millions of dollars in revenue. Manhattan will be hosting its 35th annual Juneteenth celebration this weekend beginning with the Fashion Show at the Manhattan Arts Center on Thursday at 6 pm. With the recent announcement of Caterpillar shutting down in Wamego, Manhattan Area Technical College is looking to lend a hand to the displaced workers who are looking for a new job. MATC President Jim Genandt says that he has reached out to the county and listed some ways the college will be lending a hand. Genandt said that the decision was quite surprising for the college. The Clay County Hospital Foundation’s campaign to support the construction of a new mental health clinic and expansion of the Clay Center Familiy Physician has attracted broad financial support from the region. According to campaign director Dan Thalman, the campaign has surpassed its initial goal of raising $150,000 by raising well over $200,000. The organization is now striving to reach a goal of $300,000. Construction of a 6,700 square foot addition is set to begin in August. The $3.8 million project includes a 2,400 square foot mental health clinic and a 4,300 square foot expansion of Clay Center Family Physicians.…

A KBI officer was injured in a search that was conducted early Thursday morning in Shawnee County for child sexual abuse material in Rossville. Officers from the KBI Northeast Child Victims Task Force along with the KBI Cyber Crime Unit and Rossville Police conducted a search warrant just after 6:30 a.m. at a home in the small community. Authorities allege the suspect, 55-year-old John Ross bit a KBI agent while being detained. The agent was treated and released. Ross was transported to Stormont Vail for minor injuries. The Manhattan Parks and Rec Board voted Monday to send a recommendation to the City Commission on the Move MHK! Plan that will be considered on June 18. The commission was somewhat divided on the plan, stating that while they had received a basic rundown of the plan, there were still many questions with it due to the length of the presentation which was over 500 pages.
