One person was injured Wednesday morning following a rollover crash in Wamego. Authorities from the Wamego Police Department and Pottawatomie County Sheriff’s Office responded to the area of K-99 and US-24 just after 7 a.m. after a two-vehicle collission. According to police, the driver of a Cadillac, 26-year-old Audrey Powell, of Wamego had been southbound on K-99 and disregarded the traffic signal, striking a Mitsubishi Outlander, driven by 36-year-old Rachel Huffman, of Ogden. A juvenile passenger in Huffman’s vehicle was transported to a local hospital for minor injuries. Police said no other injuries were reported.

Following the announcement by Rep. Mike Dodson that he will not seek another term to the state House this November, a Manhattan woman has jumped into the race to potentially fill his seat. Angel Roeser announced on Tuesday that she has filed for the 67th legislative district seat as a Republican. She was born to immigrant parents and grew up in foster care in Lincoln, Nebraska. Roeser said she began a fan of policy while working on the Lincoln Public School Board. Roeser then moved to Manhattan when she was 18 to attend Kansas State. She says she fell in…

American Legion Post 17 hosted its annual Memorial Day ceremony in Sunset Cemetery on Monday, honoring those who had died in the fight for freedom. The event was preceded by a live performance by the Manhattan Municipal Band and followed with a luncheon at the American Legion. Commander Matthew Buraney spoke about why Memorial Day is important. Manhattan city commissioner John Matta was the keynote speaker at Monday’s ceremony. To close out the event, American Legion member Bruce Bell honored those fallen in previous wars as members hung wreaths from several cross-shaped memorials in honor of those who had fallen.…

In what is being described as a big boost for arts and cultural preservation, Wareham Hall has secured $1 million in state funding which will help advance fundraising efforts for an extensive renovation of the historic building. Executive director Blade Mages says this is an exciting opportunity. Wareham Hall needs to raise $2 million in non-state or private funds for every dollar provided by the state. The renovation plans will look to provide facilities that are compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act, new elevators as well as advanced security systems. With the recent decision of Kenny Titus to run for the State Senate, a Wabaunsee County native announced his intentions to run for the open seat. Eli Kormanik announced his candidacy on Wednesday to run in the 51st district legislative seat which encompasses East Manhattan to Wamego and rural Pottawatomie County. AAA is estimating that 43.8 million people will be traveling over Memorial Day Weekend, which is the second highest total ever estimated by the company and a record 38.4 million people will be taking to the roads. In their estimate, more than 488,000 Kansans are estimated to travel 50 or more miles this weekend with over 423,000 Kansans traveling by road.
