Officers in Riley County are investigating after reports were filed on Thursday for criminal damage to property. Officers filed the report just after noon in the 1300 block of Pillsbury Drive in Manhattan. The victim in this case is Affordable Towing and they reported to police that an unknown subject damaged their metal fence resulting in a total loss of approximately $5,000. A Texas man is behind bars after he was arrested for sex crimes on Thursday. Officers arrested 34-year-old Abel Gutierrez Jr., of Laredo, Texas, on a Riley County District Court warrant on charges of aggravated sexual battery on a “physically powerless” victim, aggravated sexual battery by using force or fear, two counts of sexual battery and failure to appear. Gutierrez’s bond has been set at $15,500. He remains confined at the time of this report. Click here for more local news.
One person was transported to a nearby hospital following a two-vehicle accident on Friday morning in Pottawatomie County. The accident occurred near Highway 24 and Schoeman Road earlier this morning. According to early reports from Pottawatomie County Sheriff Doug Adams, one of the vehicles was on fire and an individual was transported to Stormont Vail for their injuries. A Junction City woman is behind bars on Thursday after being arrested on a charge of failure to appear in court. Anastasia Kenyon, 24, was arrested on a Riley County District Court warrant at approximately 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday on the charge that stems from previous charges of two counts of making false information and two counts of theft by deception with a value of less than $1500. Bond in this case has been set at $20,000. Kenyon remains confined in the Riley County Jail as of this report. Click here for more local news.

A woman was injured in an accident on Tuesday morning that occurred in Manhattan. The accident occurred at approximately 10:15 a.m. at mile marker 306 on Tuttle Creek Boulevard. Roxanne Brown, 32, was transported by EMS to Via Christi after she lost control of her vehicle on the ice on the road. Her injuries are considered non-life threatening. Even with the election more than a year away, the first person to announce their candidacy for Governor of Kansas was made on Wednesday. Secretary of State Scott Schwab has decided to throw his hat in the ring for the Republican nomination for Governor. Schwab, who was first elected to the position in 2018 and then re-elected in 2022, has been in Kansas politics since first being elected to the State Senate in 2002. Schwab grew up in Great Bend and currently resides in Overland Park with his wife, Michele, and their children. He graduated from Fort Hays State University.…
A fire that engulfed a semitrailer restricted traffic on I-70 just west of Topeka on Wednesday morning. The fire was reported just prior to 5:30 a.m. this morning on westbound I-70 about 2 miles west of the Shawnee-Wabaunsee County line. The semi was reported to be fully engulfed in flames. Initial reports from the scene indicated the trailer was carrying ammunition. Traffic was impeded due to crews responding to scene.
