The sixth annual Pancakes for Pawnee was held at the west side Early Edition in Manhattan on Tuesday evening. Pawnee Mental Health CEO Robbin Cole says the event’s proceeds go towards those who don’t have health insurance that need mental health assistance. Cole also talked about the drive thru service that is provided by Pawnee which was implemented in 2021 during the COVID-19 pandemic. Cole says that this even becomes more important with the need for mental health services rising. The latest KBCA rankings were released on Tuesday and saw a drop in the rankings for Rock Creek Boys and Wamego Girls. In the 4A Boys rankings, Rock Creek saw a drop from #7 to #9 in the latest rankings after dropping their second contest of the season last Tuesday to Marysville. In the 4A Girls rankings, Wamego also saw a drop from #2 to #4 following a road loss to Chapman and a narrow victory over Abilene. The Riley County Police Department executed a search warrant on Friday that resulted in the arrests of three Manhattan residents. Police executed the search warrant at approximately 1:57 pm in the 3000 block of Claflin Road. Police arrested 41-year-old Stephanie Taylor, 28-year-old Grier Griffin and 32-year-old Colton Gardner at various times throughout the afternoon in connection to the search warrant. Taylor is charged with a slew of probable cause offenses that includes the distribution of opiates, distribution of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia with the intent to distribute for illegal use. She is currently confined in Riley County Jail…

The Manhattan-Ogden School Board approved the purchase of new iPads Wednesday night for classrooms, though not without some pushback from one board member. Katie Allen stated her opposition to purchasing more technology due to studies that found that the addition of technology in the classroom did not improve reading or writing standards with students. She says it may also lead to potential data breaches, similar to the one experienced at Kansas State University last month. The purchase was approved 5-1, with Allen dissenting. The City of Manhattan is expected to announce the start of the East Manhattan Gateway Plan process next week. The city will be hosting a couple of community open houses on Monday and Tuesday allowing for residents to share their thoughts on what should go into the plan. The first meeting will be held from 4:30 to 6 on Monday at the Army National Guard at 721 Levee Drive and the second meeting will be held on Tuesday from 4 to 5:30 at the Crestview Christian Church on 3940 Excel Road.
