Talks on a new MOU agreement between USD 383 and MATC continue to stall according to USD 383 superintendent Eric Reid. Reid first reported on the disagreement at the board’s last meeting on Nov. 1 and reported at Wednesday’s meeting that the two sides are still far apart on an agreement. USD 383 School Board President Karla Hagemeister says that while she hopes a deal can be done soon, the board may have to look at different alternatives if a deal with MATC isn’t agreed to. Kansas State University is taking the next steps toward a more sustainable future by launching and leading the collaborative, multi-institutional Kansas Water Institute. In a press release, the university says that the interdisciplinary institute will build on the work of the Kansas Water Resources Institute that was established under the 1964 Water Resources Research Act and historically has operated out K-State’s College of Agriculture. The American Red Cross will be hosting its 14th annual Keep the Drive Alive blood drive this Thursday and Friday in memory of the late Kevin Coffey who was a Manhattan resident and committed blood donor during his life. The event will be held at St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Manhattan from noon to 6 p.m. on Thursday November 16th and from 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday November 17th. There will be three new faces on the Manhattan City Commission in the new year. Susan Adamchak, Karen McCulloh and Peter Oppelt all won election to the commission Tuesday night. Incumbent John Matta won re-election. Adamchak was the top vote getter Tuesday night. McCulloh is no stranger to the city commission. She finished in second place and receives a third stint on the commission. She shared her priorities moving forward. Both Adamchak and McCulloh won four year terms. Negotiations are continuing between USD 383 and Manhattan Area Technical College over an update to how the two sides are reimbursed for concurrent and automotive technology education offerings at Manhattan High School. The two sides are still far apart in terms of how much MATC would be required to reimburse the district, which provides faculty for general education and Excel in Career in Technical Education (CTE) courses.
