A four-car accident occurred on K-18 on Saturday night resulting in injury. The accident happened around 10:15 as four cars were travelling west bound south of Ogden. A 2013 Ford Edge instigated the accident by rear ending a 2008 Nissan Rogue that had come to a stop in the center lane, forcing the Nissan to move into the passing lane. The Edge then rear ended a 2022 Buick Encore which then rear ended a 2015 Ford. The Kansas State Police Department is currently investigating a burglary on campus. A report was filed yesterday just before 1:30 pm at the 1700 block of Hillcreast Drive for a theft of less than $1500. The incident reportedly occurred on Wednesday around 7:30 pm. At this time, no further details are availiable.
A Wamego man was arrested Thursday for violating the Kansas Offender Registration Act. 27-year-old Brady Reed was arrested at 3:30 pm at the Riley County Jail on three counts of violating KORA, one count of violating a protective order and one count of perjury. Further details of the arrest are unknown at this time. Reed remains jailed on a $22,000 bond in Riley County Jail.
Saturday was the 15th annual Speedy PD’s Run for Parkinson’s Disease at Tuttle Creek State Park. As per usual, turnout was quite high with several people running or walking in the race. Julie Miller and her grandson Connor were some of the participants in the event. Jane Pringle was a volunteer in the event and said she does it in part due to her husband suffering from Parkinson’s. Manhattan’s Park and Recreation department is set to release data from surveys handed out to residents in the past few months. At Monday’s advisory board meeting, Assistant City Manager Jared Wasinger presented the preliminary information from surveys sent to residents in April, starting with how their information is being received by residents, primarily online. Preliminary results show 88% of respondents said they had visited a park in the past 12 months, 74% had walked or biked on a city trail and 40% had visited the Anthony or Eisenhower Recreation Center. Manhattan High School held its open house on Saturday to show off the new additions that have been added to the high school’s West Campus. The addition was passed via a bond referendum in November 2018. USD 383 Superintendent Eric Reid thanked the contractors, school board members and residents who helped make the addition possible. Reid said that the additions should make the campus feel like an actual high school for the students. USD 383 board member Curt Herrman detailed the new additions at the open house. A Manhattan man has been arrested for suspected stalking and violating a protection order. 39-year-old Donald Juarez was arrested just after midnight on Saturday at the 100 block of North 11th street in Manhattan. Juarez is charged with two counts of stalking after being served a protection order and two counts of violating a protection order. He is currently out of Riley County Jail on an $8,000 bond.
With the beginning of school around the corner, construction projects are beginning to wrap up for the summer in Manhattan. One of those projects is the Kimball Avenue and Grand Mere roundabout reconstruction. As of July 18, demolition has been completed of the old roundabout according to the City of MHK Public Works Projects website. A Manhattan woman was arrested on Thursday for suspected identity theft. Rachel Ligenfelter was arrested at 9:30 am by the Kansas State University Police at the 1400 block of Claflin Road in Manhattan Ligenfelter is charged with two counts of identity theft with intent to defraud someone receiving benefits of more than $100,000, single counts of criminal use of a financial card, and one count of mistreating a dependent adult using deception or false pretense. Ligenfelter is currently out of Riley County Jail on a $5,000 bond.
An expected plea hearing for a man suspected in a 2020 Aggieville shooting has been delayed after negotiations between the prosecution and defense stalled Tuesday. Travell Hairston, 31, was expected to plead guilty to a slew of charges that were headlined by attempted first degree murder. However, miscommunication over the length of the sentence led to the plea hearing being pushed back to a later date. According to the defense team, Hairston had agreed to serve 150 months in prison for his crimes but there was concern that the state was pursuing an aggravated charge which would add an additional…
