A senior citizen was scammed out of $1,000 after they were deceived into purchasing gift cards from the company she worked at. The report was filed by RCPD officers in the 3300 block of Mercer Drive on Thursday just prior to 11:30 a.m. and lists a 73-year-old female as the victim. A Manhattan man who was recently sentenced to four years in prison for child sex crimes was arrested and charged on Thursday night after he got into a fight with another inmate. Tristian Gooden-Heit, 29, has been charged with single counts of battery by making physical contact in a rude, insulting or angry manner and disorderly conduct by brawling or fighting. James Watkins, 43, picked up a charge for battery by knowingly or recklessly causing bodily harm and another for disorderly conduct by brawling or fighting. Both men are held on bonds of $3,000. An Eskridge man is set to be sentenced next month after accepting a plea agreement for two counts of child rape. According to a report from KVOE, Manuel Thomas Bailey, 24, will be sentenced on Jan. 14, 2025. He was initially accused of aggravated indecent liberties with a child back in July. He was later arrested and charged with two counts of the offense with a child no more than seven years old at the time. The offenses reportedly occurred over this past summer. The license of a former chiropractor has been revoked by the state of Kansas. The state of Kansas revoked the license of former Manhattan chiropractor Kenyon Erickson after he had been convicted of sexual battery in Riley County District Court earlier this year. Erickson reportedly touched a patient inappropriately during a session in Apr. 2022. Erickson owned Erickson Chiropractic in Aggieville. The business was shut down after he was sentenced to a 12-month sentence at home. He was later released from house arrest this summer for good behavior. The full report can be read below.

Gov. Laura Kelly announced on Wednesday that 14 Kansas rail projects will receive a total of $13 million through the Kansas Department of Transportation’s Rail Service Improvement Program. Among those rail projects receiving funding is the Abilene and Smokey Valley Railroad received $471,722 in Dickinson County. Seaboard Energy Hugoton Rail Expansion received the most funding at nearly $2.2 million. The selected projects, located across 16 counties, enhance the state’s rail network by promoting economic efficiency, supporting sustainability and addressing critical infrastructure needs. A man was taken to a nearby hospital on Tuesday after crashing his car into a barrier. RCPD reported that 72-year-old David Livingston was transported by EMS to Via Christi for his injuries after he slammed his car into a barrier just prior to 11 a.m. on Tuesday at the corner of Anderson and Manhattan Avenues. Livingston’s status is unknown at this time as RCPD did not release any further information.

Two local teenagers have been arrested for their role in a physical altercation that occurred on Tuesday evening. The incident occurred just after 6 p.m. at Opportunities Unlimited in the 400 block of Clydesdale Drive in Ogden when a 17-year-old male threw a metal chair at another resident. A 16-year-old male then stepped in the middle of the incident and threw the other male to the ground and assaulted him. Both teens were arrested and charged with one count of aggravated battery. Dennis Cook, the executive director of the Aggieville Business Association, said this is the fourth or fifth year in a row the organization has conducted the festivities at 12th and Moro streets. James Kujath of James Gordon and Associates told Riley County Law Enforcement Agency Board members on Monday that RCPD was $130,000 under its 2023 budget. “That’s a good thing, as if they went over, they’d be violating state statute,” Kujath said. Kujath said personnel services increased by $2 million in 2023 because the department gave out many raises, including costs related to jail payroll.
