K-State President Richard Myers says he’s asked administrators to fast-track actions to combat racism and bigotry and other forms of social injustice. Details on those action plans could be released later this week. In a letter penned Monday, Myers apologized for the actions of Jaden McNeil, the self-described founder of conservative group America First Students, which K-State says is not currently registered on campus because of a lack of membership. Riley County continues to see a rise in new cases of the novel coronavirus. As of Monday, the health department was monitoring 134 active cases. While hospitalizations remain low, the health department is monitoring at least one individual on a ventilator and one person who is an inpatients awaiting their test results. There will be no shows this fall at McCain Auditorium. The McCain Performance Series at Kansas State University is canceling plans for a full subscription series in the fall. The decision was made with the safety of students, staff, volunteers, patrons and artists in mind. Director Todd Holmberg says the decision was a heartbreaking one to make. “Ultimately, the guiding principle in this decision was the safety of the campus and community. The decision was also predicated on the fact that several scheduled artists and attractions were canceling their own plans to tour until at least January 2021,” he said.…

Riley County health officials have confirmed an outbreak of at least six positive cases of coronavirus at Riley County Emergency Medical Services. Three additional tests were pending as of Sunday. According to the health department, positive cases have been confirmed at two out of four EMS stations in the county, with a third likely. All emergency medical and fire services are said to be fully supported and operational. There have been no changes in response posture for the community. Riley County Police are looking for two individuals wanted for questioning related to a theft at the Manhattan Target. The two men are seen in a security photo in reference to the theft that occurred Wednesday around 8:20 p.m. They were additionally seen with a white female in pink shirt, black pants, with her hair in a ponytail. As conversations continue nationally about how police use force, particularly against minorities, the Riley County Police Department is evaluating its own policies. During KMAN’s In Focus Friday, RCPD Director Dennis Butler agreed there has been racism in policing nationally but stopped short of calling it a systemic problem. One of four suspects in the shooting death of a Manhattan man last fall appeared in Riley County District Court this week for a status hearing. Shamar Sutton, 45, is charged with one count of first-degree murder, attempted aggravated robbery and aggravated battery as well as aggravated assault and criminal discharge of a firearm. Judge William Malcolm on Tuesday set a preliminary status hearing for July 21 at 1 p.m. Sutton is linked to the Nov. 1 murder of 24-year-old Tanner Zamecnik outside a west Manhattan apartment complex. Fort Riley soldiers are not allowed to visit Aggieville from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. daily. That was an order discussed at a town hall meeting Wednesday. Command Sgt. Maj. Raymond Harris of the 1st Infantry Division said the order came after KDHE confirmed an outbreak in the bar district this week. Service members who visit the district outside those hours are required to wear a mask or face covering there or while in other public places. A 13-year-old Geary County boy was killed Thursday when the bicycle he was riding struck a semi truck in Marion County. It happened around 11 a.m. in the small town of Hillsboro. The Kansas Highway Patrol says Trevor Dayton Adams Wullenweber was riding on the sidewalk, went into an intersection and struck the semi, which was making an eastbound turn. The child was pronounced dead at the scene. The highway patrol crash log reports he was a resident of Milford. He was also a former student at Bergman Elementary in Manhattan.
