Tyler Lockett tied a K-State bowl record with three receiving touchdowns to lead K-State to a 31-14 win over Michigan in the 25th Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl. The win snapped a five game bowl losing streak for the Wildcats, who hadn’t won a bowl game since the 2002 Holiday Bowl. K-State should welcome the newest member of its backcourt to the floor on Saturday at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn when they take on Tulane. Point guard Jevon Thomas is expected to make his first appearance of the season after becoming eligible on December 21st as a mid-year enrollee. Thomas was arguably the most highly recruited member of K-State’s 2013 recruiting class that includes current leading scorer Marcus Foster. DE Ryan Mueller, S Ty Zimmerman, C B.J. Finney and WR/KR/PR Tyler Lockett were all named first team All-Big 12 selections by the Big 12 coaches. Lockett was a first team selection at both wide receiver and kick returner/punt returner in addition to being named the Special Teams Player of the Year. K-State junior DE Ryan Mueller’s reward for his 11.5 sack, 18.5 tackle for loss season is being named the Big 12 Defensive Lineman of the Year by the Big 12 coaches. It’s now the second straight year that K-State has taken home that honor. Meshak Williams won the award last season after registering 15.5 tackles for loss and 10.5 sacks. Mueller was beat out for Defensive Player of the Year in the conference by Texas DE Jackson Jeffcoat and TCU CB Jason Verrett. Wide Receiver Tyler Lockett, safety Ty Zimmerman and defensive end Ryan Mueller all racked up first team all-big 12 honors from the Associated Press. Lockett was named a first team wide receiver and all-purpose player after catching 71 passes for 1,146 yards this season. Mueller, a former walk-on, tied the school record for sacks this season with 11.5. Zimmerman took home all big 12 honors for a fourth straight year. Linebacker Blake Slaughter, center B.J. K-State cruised past Central Arkansas 87-54 behind a season-high 19 points from senior Shane Southwell. Junior Thomas Gipson had 17 points and 6 rebounds and sophomore Marcus Foster added 10 points as well. The Wildcats dominated the undersized bears on the boards all game long and finished with a 52-22 rebounding advantage. K-State’s November 9th game at Texas Tech will kickoff at 11:00 a.m. on ABC according to the Big 12 conference. It will be the first morning kickoff of the season for K-State. The Red Raiders fell at Oklahoma on Saturday and are 7-1 this season heading into Saturday’s game against Oklahoma State.
