Baylor wide receiver Corey Coleman has been suspended by the Big 12 conference for the first half of Baylor’s game this Saturday against Iowa State as punishment for his block on K-State defensive back Kip Daily during Saturday’s 35-25 win for the Bears. “As a result of our review and conclusion that Targeting should have been called, Mr. Coleman will be suspended for the first half of Baylor’s next game against Iowa State under Rule 9.1.4 of the NCAA Rules Book,” announced commissioner Bob Bowlsby in a statement. K-State head coach Bruce Weber has his first commitment for the 2014 recruiting class in the form of JUCO big man Stephen Hurt. Hurt is a 6-10, 285 pound power forward from Northwest Florida State College who chose K-State over Wichita State and Miami. K-State’s game next Saturday, October 12th against Baylor will kickoff at 2:30 p.m. and be televised nationally on Fox. It’s the first appearance on Fox this season for K-State, and it will be the third year in a row that the Wildcats game against Baylor will be shown to a national audience. Rodney McGruder has signed a contract with the NBA’s Oklahoma City Thunder, according to the Thunder’s official website. Terms of the deal have not been officially released. McGruder played in the NBA summer league with the Orlando Magic, but was not offered a deal by the team after the summer. He was named first team all-big 12 during his senior season at K-State after averaging 15.6 points, 5.4 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.26 steals per game. K-State cornerback Kip Daily is the Big 12 defensive player of the week after intercepting two UMASS passes on Saturday and taking one back 38 yards for a touchdown. The interceptions were the first two of Daily’s career, and this is his first Big 12 honor. Daily, a senior who has cracked the starting lineup, also had three tackles against the minutemen. He has the first multi-interception game for a Wildcat since Allen Chapman had three interceptions against Oklahoma State last season. Bill Snyder has officially named Jake Waters as K-State’s starting quarterback for Friday’s season opener against North Dakota State. Waters beat out redshirt sophomore Daniel Sams, who played sparingly behind Collin Klein last season. “Jake just displayed more consistency,” Snyder said. “It’s mental, emotional and physical and there was more consistency in his presence during these 24 or 25 practices that we’ve had.” Snyder mentioned Sams will “in all likelihood” still play during the opener, and that he may have been held back a little bit during fall camp. “What slowed Daniel down a little bit was that he missed…

For a second straight season, K-State’s men’s basketball season attendance finished in the top 25 nationally. The Wildcats attracted 12,528 fans per game to 18 home games this past season to rank 24th nationally and third in the Big 12. It’s the highest mark nationally for K-State since 1988-89 when the Wildcats finished 21st in the country. This year’s attendance number did include the 16,303 fans that attended the Hy-Vee Wildcat Classic at the Sprint Center in Kansas City. John Hubert is one of 35 players on the watch list for the inaugural Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award, given to the top offensive player from the state of Texas. Hubert has back-to-back 900 yard rushing season for the Wildcats and was a first team all big 12 selection last year. K-State opened up Bill Snyder Family Stadium for the Fall Football Kickoff event Saturday, giving fans a chance to see an hour of practice. An autograph session followed the practice and Coach Snyder addressed the crowd along with team captains.
