The Pottawatomie County Sheriff’s Office is investigating after a domestic dispute Monday in the 7700 block of Junietta Road in Manhattan. A deputy reportedly arrived on scene and made contact with a man and woman. After making contact, the man fled into a wooded area and the woman was detained. Officials from multiple law enforcement agencies searched for the man but were unable to locate him. He was later identified and the woman released after questioning. Later investigation revealed a stolen truck and camper were found at the scene. The Sheriff’s Office says there is no danger to the public.…

During their Tuesday meeting, Manhattan City Commissioners unanimously approved a request to allow negotiations with Prairie Paws Animal Shelter, Inc. regarding their interest in taking over operations at the T. Russell Reitz Animal Shelter. Commissioner Wynn Butler emphasized this is not an actual agreement but rather approval of continuing negotiations. He said these negotiations are necessary to figure out some smaller details. City Manager Ron Fehr said there are multiple benefits of contracting out the city’s animal shelter, one of which likely being a decrease in costs. The Kansas Department of Transportation is resurfacing K-16 in Pottawotamie County starting Wednesday, conditions permitting. The project covers from the K-63 junction to K-99 in Blaine, for a total of 19 miles. The contractor, Dustrol Inc of Towanda, will begin at K-63 with the eastbound lane, and complete to K-99. Once finished, the contractor will return to K-63 and start the westbound lane. The roadway will be reduced to one lane while the work takes place. Manhattan City Commissioners have multiple general agenda items to discuss when they meet tonight. Commissioners will consider a request to reduce landscaping and setback requirements for a parking lot expansion project at Manhattan High School. USD 383 is proposing an extension of the south parking lot along Oak Street asking the city to waive landscape screening and landscape island requirements and having the parking lot setback be reduced. Pottawatomie County Commissioners discussed changes to the county’s unified development regulations during their Monday meeting. County Planner Stephan Metzger tells commissioners they are proposing small changes that serve primarily as clarifications for existing regulations. One change intended to prevent a loophole in the paved road requirements for lot splitting. That change was not recommended by the Planning Commission. Another clarification includes a process to determine if land use is agricultural in nature or not. (K-State Athletics) – After guiding the Wildcats to a Big 12 Championship in 2022, Kansas State quarterback Will Howard was one of 85 players selected to the initial watch list for the 87th Maxwell Award as the outstanding player in college football, the Maxwell Football Club announced Monday. Howard’s inclusion on the list marks the seventh-straight year a Wildcat has been up for the award.
