Riley County Police Officers arrested a man over the weekend at the Casey’s General Store in Ogden. 26-year-old Joel Antonio Fernandez of Manhattan was arrested around 11:11 pm Sunday at 329 Riley Avenue. Fernandez was arrested on one count of possession of an opiate, opium, narcotic, or certain stimulant as well as one count of use/possession with intent to use drug paraphernalia into the human body. Fernandez was issued a total bond of $1000. He was still confined in the Riley County Jail at the time of Monday’s report.

Officers filed a report for burglary in the 800 block of Mission Ave. in Manhattan on July 22, 2023, around 8:30 a.m. after a 28-year-old man reported his black and yellow Cannondale Habit mountain bicycle was stolen from his shed. An Eskridge man was arrested Friday in Manhattan for a number of counts that includes harassment via telephone and a criminal threat. Gregory Walker Garner, 28, was arrested at the 1000 block of Seth Child Road just before 4:00pm in Manhattan. Garner was arrested on two counts of making a criminal threat that caused terror and led to evacuation or disruption, two counts of harassment via a telecom device with a phone call with intent to abuse, threaten or harass and one count of violating his probation. Garner is currently confined in Riley County Jail on a $10,000 bond.

The Riley County Health Department and Flint Hills Wellness Coalition launched a new pilot program today to assess housing quality in the Aggieville and City Park areas. Volunteers will be seen walking around these neighborhoods recording information on housing conditions such as visible roof damage, debris on properties, peeling paint and other issues that impact the livability of homes. Additional notes will be taken for neighborhood conditions like sidewalk damage, trees overhanging pathways and trash in public areas.
