The Flint Hills Discovery Center will open to the public Tuesday for the first time since closing due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The FHDC will be open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and then on Sunday from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.. They will close on Mondays for cleaning and maintenance. Manhattan will see e-scooters on its right-of-ways starting in the Fall. The City Commission Tuesday unanimously voted to finalize a deal authorizing a 500 rental e-scooter pilot program with micromobility networking company LINK YOUR CITY, Inc. — or just LINK. Collaborating with Kansas State University officials and students, who are simultaneously working on their own contract, half of the fleet will be deployed on campus. OLATHE, Kan. — A 39-year-old Kansas woman who tried to poison her three children with medication after losing custody of them to her ex-husband has been sentenced to nearly 29 years in prison. Therese Irine Roever was sentenced Tuesday on three attempted first-degree murder charges and criminal threat. Prosecutors said Roever’s ex-husband called police in February 2018 to report Roever and their three children were drugged and groggy at her home. KANSAS CITY, Kan. — Police say a woman has been arrested in a deadly hit-and-run crash over the weekend in Kansas City, Kansas. Police say 25-year-old Kendra Womack turned herself in shortly after fleeing the scene of the early Sunday crash. Investigators say Womack was driving a sport utility vehicle eastbound when she broadsided a car at an intersection. The driver of the car, 42-year-old Myron Gardner of Kansas City, Kansas, died at the scene, and two other adults and two children in the car were injured. Police say Womack fled the crash on foot. WICHITA, Kan. — Police say a shooting in northeast Wichita has left one man dead. Officials say the shooting happened around 3:30 a.m. Wednesday at a home in the Lambsdale neighborhood. Police say officers were called to the home for a report of a disturbance with a weapon, but when they arrived, they found a man in his 50s dead at the scene with a gunshot wound. Police say several people were at the home when officers arrived, and they were taken in for questioning. Police say they are also searching for another person. The victim’s name has not yet…

TOPEKA, Kan. — Health officials are reporting 41 cases of the coronavirus and one death linked to funeral services and visitations in Topeka’s Shawnee County. The county’s health department says the positive cases include residents from five different counties. Health officials urged families to follow Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines and work with funeral directors and religious leaders to keep services safe. New data released Wednesday shows Kansas has 11,681 cases, up 2% or 262 cases from Monday. The state health department also said that the number of COVID-19 deaths rose by two to 247.

Kansas State University says eight employees in Information Technology Services will be furloughed beginning June 28. Doing so will save the university more than $100,000. The emergency action comes following 430 employee furloughs since May due COVID-19 impacts. The university estimates in total, it has saved nearly $2.75 million. K-State’s Division of Human Capital Services is working with affected employees on federal and state health benefit options. Furloughed employees may qualify for state unemployment benefits.

Kansas State University has canceled all semester-long education abroad programs for fall of 2020. This development is due to K-State policy preventing university-sponsored travel when certain travel advisories are put in place or maintained. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention currently have a Level 3 travel advisory in place while the U.S. State Department has a Level 4 warning.
