Tremblay first presented the Commission with the Flint Hills MPO’s 2026 Budget Request of $5,226.63. This will be presented in the overall budget request. The second reason Tremblay was before the commission was to update the board regarding the budget update for the Highway 24 Corridor Study and the Cost-Benefit Analysis of a second route across the Big Blue River. The Riley County Police Department reported that two separate arrests were made Tuesday, for charges of sex crimes. 41-year-old Lamarques Channel, of Topeka, has been charged with criminal sodomy and rape. The arrest stems from the investigation of an incident that occurred in October 2019. Channel remains jailed on a $150,000 bond. 22-year-old Mason Dusseault, of Junction City is charged in a Riley County District Court warrant on suspicion of indecent liberties with a child and an aggragated count thereof. Manhattan animal control officers said Tuesday they have made contact with a man who was driving around town with a dead possum tied to his car. In a written statement posted to social media Friday, animal control said someone had reported a driver dragging what appeared to be a dead possum tied to a rope, and they were investigating. “If we find that someone intentionally harmed the animal or acted inappropriately, we will absolutely take action.” To view the full article visit theMercury.com. According to the Riley County Police Department, officers filed a report around 8:08 p.m. on April 28, 2025, for aggravated battery, aggravated endangering a child, and criminal damage to property. A 17-year-old female was listed as a victim after her 21-year-old brother, identified as Olsen Talalele Jr., allegedly armed himself with a knife and stabbed her in the leg. In Dickinson County, a Salina woman and child were injured when their vehicle crashed after hydroplaning on I-70, east of Abilene. The crash happened Monday evening just before 6 p.m. The Kansas Highway Patrol says the driver, 25-year-old Rebecca Pierce was attempting to pass a semi, but hydroplaned, went into a ditch and rolled. Pierce was transported to a Junction City hospital with suspected serious injuries. The 6-year-old child was also transported with minor injuries. Click here for more local news.

Two more Kansas State football players received the call of a lifetime from NFL franchises on Saturday as running back DJ Giddens and safety Marques Sigle were selected on the final day of the 2025 NFL Draft. Giddens was chosen with the 14th pick of the fifth round — No. 151 overall — by the Indianapolis Colts, while Sigle was selected nine picks later with the 23rd pick of the round — No. 160 overall — by the San Francisco 49ers.
