Hunter Logan Smith, 24, will be arraigned for counts of murder and criminal threat. Timothy Avery, 33, of Junction City was arrested on a warrant for theft.  Bond was set at $5,000.  At the time of this report Avery was no longer confined. City officials are reminding Manhattan residents of the annual Spring Cleanup, happening next week. City crews will be circling neighborhoods between April 7 and April 11, collecting properly bagged and stacked yard waste, tree limbs and branches. Crews will be in different quadrants of the city each day, passing through areas only once to pick up items. No construction debris, household trash or hazardous materials will be collected. From the Manhattan Mercury Just a couple days after Kansas State’s loss to No. 1 seed USC in the Sweet 16 on Saturday in Spokane, Wash., the Wildcat women have their first portal defection of the offseason. According to a report from On3, junior forward Eliza Maupin is headed to the transfer portal after three seasons in Manhattan. Maupin averaged 3.9 points per game this past season and 4.0 points per game and 11.7 minutes per game over her career. Two people were seriously injured in a Sunday crash on I-70 near Junction City. The Kansas Highway Patrol says it happened just before 4:30 pm, about a mile east of the US-77 interchange. An eastbound SUV swerved to the right, striking an eastbound Toyota Prius, causing both vehicles to spin out. THE SUV rolled several times before coming to rest on all fours. Two people in the SUV, from Lincoln, Nebraska, were transported to Stormont Vail-Flint Hills with serious injuries. A strong storm system is could impact the area, bringing gusty south winds of up to 45 mph. Strong to severe storms are expected to develop Tuesday evening and continue into the overnight hours. The primary hazards include large hail, with sizes reaching up to 2.5 inches, and damaging wind gusts around 60 mph. Arby’s at 326 Southwind Place in the Seth Child Commons shopping center served customers for the last time on Sunday. Shift manager Jolene O’Donnell writing in a post on Facebook the closure is due to the building in need of a massive renovation and the volume of business at the location “not being enough to justify the cost.” One Arby’s location in Manhattan remains open, at 405 McCall Road.
