It’s a proud moment in this family tree. Three area coaches’ teams are still alive in the postseason, and they all come from a coaching lineage that stretches back to J.W. Emerson, who led the Manhattan High football team from 1969 to 1975. Before they coached their own teams, Rock Creek head coach Shane Sieben and Wamego head coach Weston Moody were assistants for MHS football coach Joe Schartz. The Riley County Police Department is investigating a reported fraud incident involving a local retail store in Manhattan. Officers filed a report around 3:09 p.m. Nov. 20, 2025, in the 400 block of 3rd Place. Burlington Coat Factory was listed as the victim after an unknown male suspect allegedly called the store and instructed employees to remove money from the register and deposit it into a bitcoin machine.
