Wamego Public Schools is in the market for a new superintendent. At Tuesday’s monthly meeting, the USD 320 board of education accepted Rob McKim’s resignation. McKim informed the board he would be sending an email to district staff and had notified several staff members prior to the meeting. According to KNZA Radio in Hiawatha, McKim has accepted the superintendent position with Prairie Hills USD 113. McKim was hired at Wamego in 2022 and prior to that was principal at Lansing High School. He’s been in education for over 31 years. Because it can be difficult to enforce short-term rental regulations when someone doesn’t have a license, a county can use help from the state’s authority to set rules in place. A structure fire in rural Geary County, thankfully, resulted in no injuries Sunday evening. According to a Facebook post from the Geary County Rural Fire Department, firefighters were called to a structure fire at a residence around 6 p.m. Sunday in the 24 hundred block of MIlford Lake Road. The fire was contained to the hot water room in the northwest part of the residence and firefighters were able to prevent it from spreading. An accident occurred on Monday, March 10, 2025, at 11:25 AM near Wabaunsee County, specifically on Buffalo Mound Road just south of Old Stone Church Road. A 2021 GMC Rockport cargo truck failed to yield at a railroad crossing and was struck by a railroad maintenance vehicle heading east. The collision caused the GMC to catch fire. The driver of the cargo truck, identified as 52-year-old Courtney L. Waddell of Auburn, Kansas, was transported to Stormont Vail Hospital with suspected minor injuries. Under the direction of U.S. Northern Command, additional active-duty military members will soon deploy “to enhance Department of Homeland Security and Customs and Border Protection efforts to maintain security at the southern border,” officials said in a statement last week. The 19th Public Affairs Detachment from Fort Riley will provide public affairs support with visual information and media relations capabilities. The Kansas Department of Transportation announced Monday is had installed stop signs at the intersection of US Highway 24 (Tuttle Creek Boulevard) and Marlatt Avenue in Manhattan, following a crash that damaged the existing traffic signal system. Officials said drivers should use the intersection as a four-way stop sign-controlled intersection until repairs can be made. The timeline is about three weeks, conditions permitting. KDOT officials said in a statement they urge motorists to stay alert and follow posted signs in all work zones. Amari Gross, 22, of Fort Riley, was arrested on March 9, 2025, at approximately 12:24 AM in the 1100 block of Moro Street. Gross was taken into custody on charges including aggravated assault, possession of a firearm while under the influence, and disorderly conduct.
