A Manhattan woman was in court on Monday to plead guilty to charges surrounding violations of the Kansas Offender Registration Act. Destiny Melton, who was previously convicted of distributing methamphetamine and conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine, waived her right to a preliminary hearing before Judge Grant Bannister, pleading guilty to one count of violating KORA. Melton has also been convicted several times previously on other drug-related offenses. A sentencing hearing is scheduled for Monday, July 24th.

Riley County Police say a group of teenagers were arrested for fighting and interference with law enforcement officers, following an incident at AMC Theater Friday night. Police were called out for the report of a fight in progress, finding a teenage boy and two teenage girls had engaged in a physical fight with a 41-year-old woman and 45-year-old man after a verbal interaction in the lobby area of the theater. When officers tried to speak with and detain the three teenagers, they reportedly resisted and interfered. Riley County Police arrested an 18-year-old Manhattan man over the weekend in connection to a pawn shop burglary and theft. Officers were called out to Wildcat Pawn and Jewelry Friday morning just before 7 a.m. Arriving officers found the business had been broken into and a rifle worth approximately $1,100 had been stolen. Officers were called out to the 1400 block of Flint Hills Place, nearly two hours later to investigate a possible stolen car and identified the suspect to be the same in both incidents. Officers filed a report for burglary in the 2300 block of Tuttle Creek Blvd. in Manhattan on June 9, 2023, around 6:45 a.m. after being called to Wildcat Pawn and Jewelry for the report of their business alarm being activated. After arriving on scene, officers found the business had been broken into and an Aero Precision M4E1 worth approximately $1,100 had been stolen. Soon-to-be seniors Adiel Garcia II, of Olathe and Creytin Sanner, of Junction City, will attend Boys Nation July 21-29 at Marymount University in Arlington, Virginia. (AP) — The Kansas governor chose a high-ranking U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration official Friday to head the state highway patrol, replacing a retiring superintendent who is facing federal lawsuits over the agency’s policing and allegations that he sexually harassed female employees.
