Update: Sharlet Hubner has been found and is back home. Original: Riley County Police are asking for help locating a girl who was last seen Monday, March 18. Officials say 17-year-old Sharlet Ann Hubner was last seen shortly after 5 p.m. that afternoon. Hubner is described as having brown hair and blue eyes, standing about 5 feet and 8 inches tall and weighing about 150 pounds. Anyone with information on her whereabouts is asked to call Detective Sam Shubert at 785-473-2512.

TOPEKA — Authorities say a former president of a credit union in Topeka has pleaded guilty to embezzlement. The U.S. attorney’s office said in a news release that 52-year-old Connie Marie Kent of Topeka pleaded guilty Tuesday to one count of theft from a credit union and has agreed to repay nearly $40,000. She admitted in her plea agreement that she was an officer and employee of 1st Kansas Credit Union, formerly known as Post Office Credit Union. Its membership is limited to government employees. She faces up to 30 years in prison. Sentencing is set for June 25.
A Manhattan bank and construction company were the victims of theft and fraud Tuesday, according to Riley County Police. RCPD says a known suspect stole Kansas State Banks cheques from Walters Morgan Construction and made false information. The loss associated with the case is $8,001. The case is ongoing, KMAN will update as more information becomes available.
An unknown suspect stole a donated trailer from Habitat for Humanity, according to Riley County Police. The trailer was taken from the ReStore parking lot. RCPD received the theft report just after noon on Monday, but Manhattan Habitat for Humanity Executive Director Karmen Davenport says they don’t know when the theft actually occurred. “The trailer was there in our parking lot Saturday when we closed at 5 p.m. and we realized Monday morning that it was no longer there,” Davenport says. “It disappeared sometime over the weekend.” The trailer is worth about $1,000. GREAT BEND — Barton County is purchasing new voting equipment to replace its aging machines and move back to using paper ballots. The Great Bend Tribune reports that commissioners on Monday approved $183,000 to buy voting equipment from Election Systems and Software in Omaha, Nebraska. The county’s current system is 12 years old and beginning to show wear. County Clerk Donna Zimmerman says it should be replaced before the equipment becomes unreliable. She says they have been working on the project for three years viewing various products before suggesting Election Systems and Software, which provides the county’s current voting machines.…
TOPEKA — Democratic Gov. Laura Kelly has withdrawn a trial-court judge’s nomination to Kansas’ second-highest court in the face of opposition in the Republican-controlled state Senate. Kelly’s decision Tuesday came only a day after Senate President and Wichita Republican Susan Wagle predicted that nominee Jeffry Jack would not be confirmed to the Kansas Court of Appeals. Republicans decried posts on Jack’s Twitter feed in 2017 that criticized President Donald Trump and expressed support for gun control and abortion rights. Some contained vulgar language. The U.S. 10th Circuit Court of Appeals on Monday upheld a lower decision not to dismiss two women’s Title IX lawsuit against Kansas State University. The plaintiffs, two former K-State students, allege that KSU officials did not take reasonable action to investigate when they reported being raped by other students — violating Title IX.
