KANSAS CITY — U.S. Sen. Jerry Moran says he plans to discuss election interference during an upcoming trip to Russia with a small group of Republican lawmakers. The Kansas City Star reports that Moran also will be visiting Norway and Finland during the Senate’s holiday break. The visit to Russia occurs ahead of a planned July 16 meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and President Donald Trump in Helsinki. The City of Manhattan’s Aggieville “Vision to Reality” team is asking for community participation in a survey about proposed streetscape and parking improvements to Aggieville. The survey can be found at AggievilleVision.com and will be live through Aug. 31. The city hopes to receive a wide range of survey responses from groups such as Manhattan residents, university alumni and military service members and their families. WICHITA — A man who owed almost $400,000 in taxes has been convicted of walking into a tax office in Kansas and shooting and wounding a state tax agent who was working on his case. The Wichita Eagle reports that 52-year-old Ricky Wirths was found guilty Thursday of attempted first-degree murder in the September 2017 shooting of agent Courtney Holloway. The shooting happened about three hours after Holloway and sheriff’s deputies had gone to Wirths’ house to seize assets. Officials say Wirths asked for Holloway by name after he was buzzed into the waiting area of a Wichita tax office.…

Officers responded to the report of an injury accident near the intersection of Kimball Ave. and College Ave. in Manhattan on June 28, 2018 at approximately 5:44 PM. When officers arrived on scene, they found a 2007 white Dodge Ram truck driven by Stephanie Schmidt, 42, of Junction City crashed into 2006 gray Chevrolet Aveo driven by Nancy Hill, 72, of Manhattan. Two passengers in the Aveo were transported to Via Christi for treatment of their injuries.

OVERLAND PARK — A suburban Kansas City chiropractor has surrendered his medical license as a state board investigates sexual abuse reports. The Kansas City Star reports that the Overland Park, Kansas, chiropractor made the decision to surrender his license last week after it was suspended on an emergency basis in May. The suspension came after a female patient reported abuse and got a protection order from a judge because she said she feared he would retaliate. TOPEKA — Kansas lawmakers are demanding answers after protesters were locked out of the Statehouse last week. The Lawrence Journal-World reports that top leaders from both parties directed the director of Legislative Administrative Services to prepare a report during a meeting Wednesday. They want answers about when security officials can lock people out of the Statehouse and who has the authority to make such a decision. The Junction City Fire Department responded to a house fire late Tuesday night. JCFD said in a press release that the cause was accidental. The fire started at a single-story house at 805 West 7th St. in Junction City around 11:30 p.m. The 61-year-old homeowner was taken to Geary Community Hospital for smoke inhalation and was experiencing difficulty breathing. The fire began in a bedroom facing the street. JCFD found extensive heat and smoke damage in that room, with minimal damage to other rooms.
