A couple of injury accidents involving motorcycles were reported in the K-MAN listening area Saturday, with one involving a fleeing and eluding case. Saturday afternoon Devin Booth, 20, of Peoria, Illinois was injured while driving his 2002 Honda Motorcycle in Geary County. Booth was merging onto I-70 westbound from K-18 and accelerated to a high rate of speed. According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, Booth was reportedly attempting to flee and elude police while driving in excess of 100 miles per hour. LEAVENWORTH — A 32-year-old Missouri man faces more than two years in prison after being convicted of charges stemming from a pipe bomb explosion in Leavenworth. Simon Nigel Pohl of St. Joseph was sentenced Friday in Leavenworth County court to two years and eight months in prison on charges of criminal use of explosives and possession of methamphetamine. The Kansas City Star reports that Pohl was arrested in April, along with two other people who were charged after explosive devices damaged two vehicles in Leavenworth on April 18 and May 3. TOPEKA — With Republican Gov. Sam Brownback for now refusing to say how he’ll keep Kansas’ budget balanced, some GOP lawmakers are promising more aggressive oversight. Some even want to challenge the governor’s longstanding control over annual spending blueprints. Senate President Susan Wagle outlined a proposal this week to give lawmakers a bigger role as internal documents from state agencies showed how they might reduce spending. Tomas Martinez-Maldonado is jailed in Geary County on $100,000 bond on a charge of raping a child under the age of 14 last month. Public defender Cole Hawver declined to comment Friday.
