TOPEKA — Secretary of State Kris Kobach is renewing a 14-year campaign to repeal a Kansas law granting in-state tuition rates to qualifying college students who aren’t U.S. citizens. The Topeka Capital-Journal reports that Kobach testified Thursday on behalf of a bill that would end the benefit offered to those who graduated from an accredited Kansas high school or earned a general equivalency degree and started the process of acquiring citizenship. Kansas’ in-state tuition is about a third of the out-of-state assessment. The Junction City Police Department has announced it arrested a man who had four weapons, two pounds of marijuana and $6,000 in cash. The JCPD says it arrested 31-year-old Joshua Dantzler of Junction City Friday morning at 5 a.m. The JCPD along with members of the Geary Count Sherriff’s Office and Grandview Plaza Police conducted search warrants in the 1900 block of Sunflower Drive and the 900 block of Westridge Drive after a four month investigation by the Drug Operation Group. TOPEKA — The University of Kansas has reimbursed the state for more than $7.1 million after auditors concluded last year that its social welfare school overbilled the state’s Medicaid program. Chancellor Douglas Girod formally notified Gov. Jeff Colyer and other officials of the reimbursement this week in a letter released to The Associated Press by the university. It said the repayment occurred in January. According to Girod’s letter and interviews with state officials, the university audited contracts with the Department for Aging and Disability Services. LEAVENWORTH — A Kansas congressional hopeful says he plans to raffle off an AR-15 rifle to support his campaign, even after a suspect reportedly used that type of weapon in Wednesday’s mass shooting at a Florida high school. Republican Tyler Tannahill of Leavenworth announced the raffle on Tuesday, saying it was a show of support for the Second Amendment. A dump truck overturned Wednesday afternoon in Geary County, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol. The truck, which was pulling a trailer, was northbound on U.S. Highway 77 two miles west of Junction City. As it was approaching K-57, it lost air pressure going down a hill, which resulted in failed breaking. The truck’s driver then merged into the right turn lane to avoid making a left turn. The driver could not negotiate the turn on to K-57 due to speed and overturned. The driver, 56-year-old Jay Knitter of Morganville, was taken to the Geary County Hospital for treatment of…

IT/GIS Director Kevin Howser presented the look of the new website to county commissioners on Thursday.  He said the reason for the new update is to keep up with modern programming languages, current optimization , and to meet the latest ADA Accessible Design standards.
