Authorities say a train has struck and injured a person on a bridge just east of Manhattan. The Manhattan Mercury reports the unidentified man was sleeping on a railroad bridge over the Big Blue River at 7:06 a.m. Wednesday morning when he heard the train whistle and woke up, Union Pacific Railroad media director Jeffrey DeGraff said. Union Pacific officials conducted the investigation. The man, in his mid-30s, got up to move then the train hit him. The Manhattan City Commission met in City Hall Tuesday to review funding requests from the proposed 2019 budget by the Manhattan Area Chamber of Commerce for economic development, their Military Relations Committee (MRC) and the Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB) and take a look at the 2019 to 2023 Capital Improvements Program. The Riley County Police Department Law Board, in coordination with McGrath Human Resources Group, will be hosting community meetings on the search for a new director for the RCPD, according to a press release from the department.
