There’s been a lot of talk about planned improvements at Denison and Marlatt–and Brad Waller with Alfred Benesch and Company updated intergovernmental leaders Monday on how that planning is progressing. Waller was pleased with the response he got, saying everyone seems to be very positive and sees the project as a needed improvement. Officers filed a report for and are now investigating an aggravated robbery and sexual battery which occurred this past Saturday at approximately 3:05 AM in the 500 block of Osage Street in Manhattan. Police were told that the 24-year-old male victim was approached by an unknown suspect who was approximately 6 feet 3 inches tall and weighed approximately 220 pounds.  The suspect in this case is a black male with black hair and brown eyes and his age is unknown. Muriel was here! Muriel, the last known survivor of the 14L-10E’s built and identical to the Amelia Earhart’s plane, made a short overnight stop in Wamego, and was on public display for a couple hours on Sunday.  Muriel will end her journey in Atchison Sunday night. Muriel, the name given by the owner and aviatrix, Grace McGuire, in honor of Earhart’s sister Muriel, was transported by truck from El Cajon, Cali., and stopped overnight in Wamego.  Muriel was transported by Wichita based trucking company, Landstar, Inc.  According to the driver, Abel Meares, people along the route reacted positively to seeing…

WICHITA, Kan. (AP) A former Kansas police chief has been sentenced to probation for his role in a scheme to buy discounted firearms. The office of the U.S. Attorney for Kansas said in a release that former Bel Aire Chief John Daily was sentenced Friday to six months’ probation after pleading guilty to a misdemeanor charge of theft of public funds. Daily also has to pay a $1,000 fine. The prosecutor’s office says Daily admitted that he filed paperwork that falsely represented that certain firearms were bought only for the police department. As a result, no sales tax was collected…

ABILENE — A Kansas police chief has pleaded not guilty to charges accusing him of disseminating or requesting criminal history information without a legitimate need. Bronson Campbell was the Enterprise police chief from May 2013 until May 2014, when his appointment wasn’t renewed. He’s currently the Valley Falls police chief. The complaint alleges that in 2014 Campbell disseminated criminal history information, or requested such information from the central repository of another criminal justice agency, without a legitimate need. The Topeka Capital-Journal reports he pleaded not guilty Thursday to the misdemeanor during a preliminary hearing in Dickinson County. Campbell recently sought the Republican…

Kansas State University has announced it will reduce hours at Hale Library, according to a report posted in “K-State Today.” The reduction of hours is the result of balancing large cost increases in subscriptions and general use budget reductions imposed universitywide. The university imposed one-time callbacks in FY 2016 of $10.7 million and then reduced base budgets totaling $11.6 million in FY 2017. The budget reductions were an outcome of state general fund reductions and a modest student enrollment decline. The impact to K-State Libraries over the past two years is a loss of almost $1 million in general use…

The world’s last known original 1935 Lockheed Electra L-10E named “Muriel” will be displayed in Wamego over the weekend on its way to Atchison, according to a press release from the Atchison Amelia Earhart Foundation on Friday. The plane will arrive in Wamego Saturday night and will be on display from 11 a.m. till noon Sunday at KanEuip, Inc., on Highway 24. After that, the plane will return to the road and end its journey in Atchison Monday morning with a ceremony at Amelia Earhart Airport at noon. “Muriel” is the only survivor of the 14 L 10Es built and identical to the plane…

WICHITA — Kansas is spending more than $215 million to overhaul a computer system that tracks information about the Medicaid health care program that covers the poor. The Wichita Eagle reports that the spending will be spread over four years and put the system in line with new federal standards. The federal government will pick up most of the tab, with about 21.3 percent coming from the state’s general fund this fiscal year. The system should go live in early 2019.
