Four people have been arrested in connection with an aggravated kidnapping case in Geary County, following a month long investigation which also involved the United States Marshal’s Service. A news release Thursday from Geary county Sheriff Tony Wolf’s office indicates during the midday hours of July 19th the Geary County Sheriff’s Office responded to Old Highway 13 in the southeastern portion of rural Geary County after a man was found severely injured at the edge of a field. Junction City Police report an armed robbery at Subway in the 300 block of West Sixth at about 7:30 Wednesday night. A news release from JCPD Lt. Jeff Childs indicates upon arrival officers learned a lone black male approached one of the on duty employees, produced a handgun and demanded money from the register. It was learned the suspect departed the business on foot. During the investigation of the incident a possible suspect was identified, located and transported to the Junction City Police Department. Manhattan-Ogden students are back in the classrooms, and administrators have taken the opportunity this week to take a look at enrollment numbers this school year. Besides an additional 50 students at enrolled at MHS, assistant superintendent Eric Reid told board members on Wednesday night the district enrollment might be flat – or even down – for the 2016-2017 school year. USD 383’s final enrollment must be submitted to the state by September 20. Reid said middle school numbers are down, but elementary numbers are up. There are nearly 6,000 students enrolled as of now. KMAN has received word that two K-State cheerleaders working out at Bill Snyder Family Stadium were reportedly treated for heat exhaustion early Wednesday afternoon. While specific information is not yet available, Via Christi Hospital Emergency Services Director Larry Couchman tells KMAN two patients were transported to the Emergency Department by Riley County EMS, with one potentially critical and the other potentially serious at the time of transport. Couchman adds additional patients may have been treated by K-State Athletic staff at the scene. The old Aggieville Arby’s was torn down recently. Coming soon in its place will be a Popeye’s Louisiana Kitchen. The plans are set for the chain chicken restaurant to be built, and are now just awaiting a permit to be issued. Manhattan Building Manager, Brad Claussen says he expects this to be done soon.

The Wamego City Commission approved a multi-jurisdictional plan. At Tuesday’s meeting, City Manager Merl Page said he was approached by a company to participate in the planning process for a Multi-Jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plan. He added that a consultant was brought on board and the plan is complete, with no time frame included. According to Page, this is just a resolution to participate and could require an investment in a community shelter if it is identified as a need.
