Authorities are investigating a case of fraud reported at the Manhattan Goodwill store. According to the Riley County Police Department an unknown suspect scammed an employee into using store funds to pay for a fraudulent business debt. The incident was reported around 7 p.m. Tuesday. Police say the estimated total loss is around $1,200. Anyone with information about a crime can contact Crime Stoppers. Using Crime Stoppers allows you to remain anonymous and could qualify you for a cash reward of up to $1,000.

A Junction City man was arrested Tuesday at the Riley County Jail on a Manhattan Municiapl Court warrant for failure to appear, stemming from an original charge of theft. Police say 23-year-old Derrick Barbour Jr. also was arrested on a Riley County District Court warrant for aggravated assault, aggravated domestic battery, criminal threat and domestic battery. The arrest stems from an original report filed in December. An online criminal complaint alleges the offenses against a female victim on Dec. 17. Barbour remains jailed on a $15,500 bond.

Michael Ayon Sr., 67, of Manhattan, was arrested at approximately 10:56 p.m. on March 3, 2026 in the 1000 block of S. Seth Child Road on a Riley County District Court warrant for failure to appear. This arrest stems from original charges of possession of methamphetamine. Ayon Sr. was issued a total bond of $6,000 and is no longer confined in the Riley County Jail. An Arkansas man is in custody on a past Riley County warrant alleging aggravated robbery and aggravated battery. Riley County Police say 19-year-old Maxx Epley was arrested just after 2:30 p.m. Monday in the 1100 block of Bluemont Ave. The warrant stems from a report filed in July 2025. Epley was issued a total bond of $100,000. He remained confined as of Tuesday’s arrest report.

Residents lined up over the weekend to support the Manhattan Public Library and look for a deal on books. A representative with the Fort Riley public affairs office said Monday he is not aware of any 1st Infantry Division involvement in the military operation against Iran that launched Saturday. He said Fort Riley has not received information regarding the operation. A joint attack from the U.S. and Israel began Saturday at 6 a.m. local time. Since then, three U.S. troops have been killed and five have been seriously injured. U.S. and Israel airstrikes killed Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. President Donald Trump said the U.S. will continue its attack for “four to five weeks.”
