By The Kansas Reflector TOPEKA — The Kansas Supreme Court reversed the drug-trafficking conviction of an Illinois-tagged motorist linked to evidence seized from a vehicle stopped by Geary County law enforcement merely because the frame around a license plate obstructed part of the state’s name. By Emma Loura Riley County officials on Monday proposed raises which would increase pay 2.4% overall for county employees — a smaller increase than they pitched at last week’s meeting. This proposed increase is a cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) which would total $736,870 for the 2026 budget. At Thursday’s meeting, the proposed total for raises in 2026 was $743,526. Robert Green, 36, of Lyndon, KS, was arrested on June 28, 2025, at approximately 10:36 p.m. in Osage County on a Manhattan Municipal Court warrant for probation violation. The warrant stems from the original charges of driving while suspended and expired registration. Green was issued a total bond of $750 and is no longer confined at the time of this report. Junior linebacker Austin Romaine and senior fullback/h-back Will Swanson were both named to the Preseason All-Big 12 Team, the league office announced early Monday afternoon. Austin Romaine received recognition as one of three linebackers on the All-Conference Team’s defense. Romaine put together a phenomenal sophomore campaign, registering a team high 96 tackles along with 7.5 TFLs, 2 sacks and three forced fumbles as he was named to the all-Big 12 second team in 2024 by both coaches and the AP. Travis Layne, 36, was convicted in a bench trial May 2 of one count of aggravated offender registration act violation and one count of offender registration act violation. He appeared Monday for the first time before Judge John Bosch for sentencing, after Judge Kendra Lewison excused herself from the case following a federal lawsuit Layne filed against her. Pottawatomie County commissioners approved an agreement with contractor Bartlett & West to realign the intersection of Flush Road and Noel Road north of Rock Creek High School.
