MANHATTAN, Kan. (K-State Athletics) – For the fourth straight week, K-State baseball picked up a Big 12 Conference weekly award, as AJ Evasco was named the Newcomer of the Week on Monday afternoon. The true freshman from Lincoln, Nebraska, becomes the third Wildcat to earn the honor this season, joining left-handed pitcher Lincoln Sheffield and shortstop Maximus Martin. For the week, Evasco recorded a team-high 12 RBI and raised his batting average to .429, the third-best in the league and highest among all freshmen. Ricky Dunklin, 30, of St George was arrested on a warrant.  The charges were Rape, Aggravated Criminal Sodomy, Aggravated Kidnapping and Aggravated Domestic Battery.  Total Bond for the warrant was $125,000. Dunklin was also arrested on a Failure to Appear Warrant. The original charge was Aggravated Domestic Battery.  This warrant had No Bond.  At the time of this report Dunklin was still confined. By Emma Loura Riley County renewed its National Flood Insurance program certification Monday. Riley County is classified as a Class 9 community and must fill out the forms to maintain this classification by April 1. “That is due to several activities that we perform,” said Amanda Webb, the county planning and development director. “In order to maintain our Class 9 certification, which does save residents of unincorporated Riley County 5 percent on their flood insurance premiums. By Rose Gruenbacher A Fort Riley man appeared in court Monday to enter his plea and get the trial scheduled for a case in which he faces charges of sex crimes. Joshue Sandoval Serrano, 23, maintained he plea of innocence through his lawyer, Cole Hawver, for the charges of rape and two counts of aggravated sexual battery. He was arrested for the crimes in April 2024. K-State announced Friday it must cease operation of its two Feed the Future Innovation Labs, following sweeping cuts by the federal government that have suspended a number of research projects and required cutting nine positions at the university. Former Manhattan High principal Terry McCarty this week resigned from a new superintendent job after the district learned his last employer was suing him for stealing money. McCarty, who left Manhattan in 2013, was hired in January as superintendent at USD 457 Garden City. He was to start July 1.
