Riley County Police Officers responded to a report of a bomb threat at the Crisis Center in Manhattan on Saturday. A female reported an unknown male called her and told her there was a bomb under the Crisis Center. Officers responded and were unable to locate any threat. The phone number was later determined to be a number used in prior scams and RCPD indicates there was no threat to the public. On Monday, April 10, construction work will begin on a pedestrian and bicycle path project on Knox Lane between Casement Road and Northeast Park Street in Manhattan. Project work includes construction of sidewalk ramps at the Casement Road intersection, new sidewalk and some new driveway construction, and curb and gutter work on south side of Knox Lane. Work will take place during daylight hours, Monday through Friday, with some occasional weekend work. Riley County Police Officers filed a report for criminal threat and criminal damage to property in the 200 block of Tuttle Creek Blvd. yesterday morning. Officers listed Larry McCallister, 34, of Ogden, and Denny’s Restaurant, as victims when McCallister reported that a suspect broke a window of the store and threatened to kill him when he escorted the suspect from the restaurant. The total loss associated with this case is approximately $700.00. Tony Dennie, 58, of Nashville, Tennessee, was arrested in the 200 block of Tuttle Creek Blvd. for criminal damage to property. Shortly before 7 p.m. on Wednesday, officers with the Junction City Police Department responded to the local Walmart Supercenter in reference to a subject that had been attacked while in her car. Upon arrival, officers met with the victim who advised that a white female with blonde hair exited a gray or dark blue vehicle, possibly a Nissan that was parked next to her vehicle. Sales tax in Manhattan will rise .2 percent Saturday. Manhattan voters passed the increase in the November election with 65 percent in favor. The increase will generate an extra $2 million for the city annually. Those funds will go to street repairs and the city’s Safe Routes to School program. The increase puts Manhattan’s sales tax at 8.95 percent and will sunset after 10 years.
A Manhattan state senator told KMAN he is optimistic the legislature can override the latest veto from the governor. “I’m hoping and thinking we’ll get the 27 votes to take care of our constituents,” Sen. A docked boat that broke loose due to rising river waters caused quite the commotion near the lunch hour on Thursday, according to a press release from the Manhattan Fire Department. At 10:51 a.m. MFD was dispatched to the area of Pillsbury Drive and Linear Trail for a report of an out of control boat with two male occupants. The original report placed the boat on the Kansas River behind Aldi’s. Boats from MFD and the Pottawatomie County Sheriff’s Office searched the area and were able to find an empty boat on the river.
