Vacant space in a county-owned building could be used to aid Pawnee Mental Health Services. Robbin Cole, Pawnee’s executive director, pitched the idea to Riley County commissioners Monday morning. WICHITA — Wichita police are investigating a report that two college students were attacked by a man shouting racial epithets and the name of Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump. Wichita State University student body vice president Khondoker Usama, who is Muslim, said he and a Hispanic friend witnessed a white man calling a black customer a racial epithet at a convenience store before the man turned on him and his friend Saturday. Usama said he was pushed, and that his friend was punched and kicked. Usama said the man then rode away on his motorcycle, after circling them and shouting Trump’s name.…
Another Manhattan man has been sentenced to nearly five years with the Kansas Department of Corrections in connection with a series of robberies in the central portion of Manhattan in September of last year. Sean Johnson was sentenced to 59 months for aggravated robbery Monday in Riley County District Court, the same as Jonathon Elliott, 20, was sentenced this past Friday. A Wamego man was arrested at the Riley County Police Department shortly before 5 on Friday evening. Brian Lee Havens, 36, was arrested for failure to appear. His bond was set at $10,000. A Junction City man was arrested Friday afternoon at the Riley County Police Department. 42-year old Kenneth Fleury Jr. was arrested for a probation violation at approximately 12:28 p.m. He was released on a $5,000 bond. (AP) Authorities say they’re investigating whether an unreported vehicle crash may have damaged the railroad tracks before an Amtrak train derailed in southwest Kansas. Gray County sheriff’s Deputy J.G. Sharp says there was a separate vehicle accident that may have damaged the rails before the passenger train derailed early Monday outside Cimarron. A few people remain hospitalized. Authorities are examining tire tracks leading to the train tracks and preserving the scene with crime scene tape, he said. Kansas State will not return to the hardwood this season. The school announced that it will not accept an invitation to play in a postseason tournament after being left out of the NCAA Tournament and National Invitation Tournament, the fields of which were announced Sunday evening. WICHITA — More than 90 people could lose their special parking privileges at the airport in Wichita under a measure about to be decided by city leaders. The Wichita Eagle reports the city council is to vote Tuesday on new parking rules at Wichita Eisenhower National Airport. The proposal designates that only Wichita city officials and employees will get the passes allowing for free parking in the airport’s public lots, and even then only when they’re on public business. The Rock Creek boys basketball team capped off another great season on Saturday afternoon with an 85-74 win over top seeded Girard in the third place game at the 4A-II State Tournament in Emporia.
