Following an overnight search, Riley County Police apprehended three men who had previously fled arrest in Manhattan. The below press release was issued by the RCPD, regarding the incident. The result of ongoing construction, changes will soon impact access to the Via Christi Hospital Emergency Room. According to a press release, the south (emergency) entrance to the hospital will be closed to non-emergent foot traffic, beginning March 14. A hallway leading to the main hospital from the emergency entrance will also close for roughly one month. During construction, all patients and visitors must enter through the main entrance on the north side of the building – with the exception of emergency room patients and their family/friends. WICHITA, KAN. – A Wichita woman pleaded guilty Wednesday to sex trafficking. According to U.S. Attorney Barry Grissom, Natasha L. Harper, 33, Wichita, Kan., pleaded guilty to one count of transporting a 17-year-old girl across state lines for the purpose of prostitution. Harper admitted she transported the girl from Kansas to Michigan, Illinois and Iowa and back to Kansas for the purpose of engaging in sex acts for money. Harper placed ads on an adult Web site offering the girl’s services, and claimed portion of the money. The parties have agreed to recommend a sentence of 90 months in federal prison…
Officers with the Riley County Police Department filed a report for the offense of promoting obscenity to minors after police were told that a 14-year-old male suspect showed an inappropriate video of another male using the restroom. This video was shown to others under the age of 18 while in the 900 block of Poyntz Ave. on March 8, 2016 at approximately 7:15 AM. Viewing the video was unwanted by the other juveniles associated with this investigation. LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) One of just two women to graduate in 1964 from a 100-member University of Kansas School of Medicine class is making a $1 million donation. The Lawrence Journal-World reports that Diane Klepper’s gift to the KU Endowment will help fund the KU Medical Center’s Health Education Building. The KU Endowment announced Tuesday that the building is under construction in Kansas City, Kansas. After a fellowship in pulmonary disease at the University of New Mexico School of Medicine, she became the dean of admissions and student affairs at the school. TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) Three Republicans in the Kansas Senate have introduced a proposal to reverse an income tax cut for business owners championed by GOP Gov. Sam Brownback. Senate Vice President Jeff King of Independence and Sens. Jim Denning and Greg Smith of Overland Park described the measure they unveiled Tuesday as a proposal to promote tax fairness. Their bill would undo a 2012 policy that exempts more than 330,000 farmers and business owners from state income taxes. It would tax 70 percent of their income. WESTFALL, Kan. (AP) A man has been charged with intentional second-degree murder in the death of another man at a farmhouse in southeastern Lincoln County. Lincoln County Sheriff Mike Weigel said Tuesday that 36-year-old Joseph Schultz was arrested in the death of 33-year-old Kevin Kubick. Schultz has asked to be appointed an attorney. The Salina Journal reports that Lincoln County deputies were sent to the farmhouse 1 .5 miles southwest of Westfall at 1:45 a.m. Saturday after receiving a 911 call from a woman. Weigel said that when authorities arrived, Kubick was found unresponsive and pronounced dead at the scene.…
TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) Authorities have arrested a Kansas man in the killing of his wife in northeast Kansas. Jackson County sheriff Tim Morse said in a news release that the 66-year-old man was arrested Tuesday. The Topeka Capital-Journal (http://bit.ly/1pg50BP) reports that the sheriff’s office received a 911 call in October from the couple’s home. The husband told dispatchers he had found his 61-year-old wife unresponsive. She died the next day at a Topeka hospital. The sheriff’s office opened an investigation, and an autopsy indicated the woman died from trauma to the spleen. A search warrant on the husband’s residence was…
