The HazMat incident in Junction City KMAN’s been reporting on since early Thursday morning involved methamphetamine. A news release from the Junction City Police Department indicates the Junction City/Geary County Drug Operations Group, assisted by the Riley County Hazardous Materials Response Team executed a search warrant in the 1300 block of Spring Hill Rd. after a month long investigation into the Manufacturing of Methamphetamine occurring at the residence. A man suspected of stealing car and lawn tractor batteries was taken into custody Monday. The Pottawatomie County Sheriff’s Office informed KMAN Wednesday it received multiple reports of stolen vehicle batteries in the area of Louisville. These thefts are believed to have occurred Feb 8-12. Detectives working these cases have received tips and assistance from the public to help identify a suspect, William Joseph Eichem, who was taken into custody near Wamego. Eichem was also found to be in possession of stolen batteries. Law officials are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying any of these recovered batteries. If anyone has recently had…

Officers filed a report for criminal damage to property and theft in the 400 block of Poliska Ln. yesterday morning. Officers listed Shannon Locke, 45, of Junction City, as the victim when he reported that an unknown suspect slashed his vehicle’s tires and stole a cable sling and a 6 foot steel bar. TOPEKA — Kansas legislators who favor balancing the state budget with a big income tax increase are preparing to test fellow lawmakers’ appetite for such a fix. The state House was planning to debate a bill Wednesday that would boost personal income taxes to raise more than $1 billion over two years, starting in July. The measure would abandon core policies championed by Republican Gov. Sam Brownback. The measure has bipartisan support but Republicans in the GOP-controlled House are split. Updated 9:30 a.m. Wednesday (News release from Riley County Police Department): On February 14, 2017, Riley County Dispatch received an assist other jurisdiction request in regards to a chase that originated with the Rossville (Kansas) Police Department. The chase began in Shawnee County, continued through Pottawatomie County, and eventually entered Riley County. Once the vehicle, a black 2009 Lexus entered Manhattan, it ran the stop light at E. What a difference a week makes. Last Tuesday night, Manhattan city commissioners left City Hall as the future of larger jets visiting Manhattan Regional Airport was up in the air. In a press release on Friday, the city announced it had decided to accept an offer by American Airlines to begin bringing in 65-passenger CR7 planes. A week ago, commissioners were turned off to the deal due to the high price of security improvements. “Sending Love” was the first event of it’s kind at Fort Riley, with Valentine’s Day wishes sent live through social media to deployed troops. A photo booth with props were featured, and the event was streamed live the past two days from the Post Exchange.
