On Thursday, RCPD director Brian Peete told the Riley County commissioners about the department’s efforts in threat assessment. “It’s a multi-disciplinary group of professionals — law enforcement, prosecution, community mental health, a whole bunch of other folks — that when threats or potential threats or issues of concern come in, we’re able to have a multi-disciplinary approach,” Peete said. By Rose Gruenbacher patient of former Manhattan chiropractor Clark Petersen testified Wednesday that Petersen gave her a card with what seemed to be an invitation to an invite-only experience, following an unusual appointment with him. The ninth victim to testify in a Riley County District Court case against Petersen said she first went to him for chiropractic care in 2005 as a senior in high school. A pedestrian sustained minor injuries after being struck by a motorist in west Manhattan Wednesday evening. According to the Riley County Police Department, a Ford Explorer driven by 19-year-old Vonda Vandwehr, of Manhattan, struck 19-year-old Dimya Brown, also of Manhattan. The incident occurred near Westloop Place and Claflin Road. Brown was treated at the scene by Riley County EMS for minor injuries. Officers responded to the report of an injury crash near the intersection of Westloop Place and Claflin Road on August 20, 2025, at approximately 5:16 p.m. Upon arrival, officers found a 2015 Ford Explorer driven by Vonda Vandwehr, 19, of Manhattan, had struck a pedestrian, Dimya Brown, 19, of Manhattan. Brown was evaluated by Riley County EMS at the scene for minor injuries and was not transported to the hospital. Vandwehr was issued a citation for inattentive driving and no proof of insurance. One person was killed and several others were injured in a rollover crash Wednesday morning on Interstate 70 in Wabaunsee County. Authorities say the crash happened in the westbound lanes near McFarland. According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, 13 adults were inside the vehicle. Two people were ejected. One person died at the scene and several others were treated with serious injuries. Investigators believe a blown tire may have caused the crash. Click here for more Wabaunsee County news.

By Rose Gruenbacher A local chiropractor testified Wednesday morning in Riley County District Court that the files given to him by Clark Petersen did not contain the records for 15 of the clients that say Petersen sexually abused them. Dr. Mark Hatesohl said he was approached in fall 2024 by Petersen’s attorney at the time, to take possession of Petersen’s patient records after he’d relinquished his chiropractic license. Arrow Coffee will soon close its doors at 1800 Claflin Road. Authorities responded to a pair of burglaries in Manhattan on Tuesday. The Riley County Police Department says a suspect broke into the Short Stop convenience store on South Port Drive by climbing through the drive-thru window and stealing cigarettes. A short time later, police arrested 31-year-old Mingo Pasillas, of Manhattan on charges of aggravated burglary. He’s currently being held in the Pottawatomie County Jail on a $20,000 bond.
