K-State — The Kansas State University Police Department is seeking help in locating vandals who overturned a grand piano in All Faiths Chapel on campus. According to a Facebook post by John Lehmer, K-State faculty member, the Steinway piano is reported to have been damaged sometime between 9 p.m. on Thursday evening and 9 a.m. on Friday morning. A four-vehicle accident disrupted traffic at the intersection of Fort Riley Boulevard and Fourth Street just before noon on Friday. An officer with the Riley County Police Department said two people were transported to the hospital via ambulance and the seriousness of the injuries are not yet known. The Riley County Police Department has responded to multiple vehicle burglaries during the past week. Detectives with the Riley County Police Department have identified a potential suspect who may be related to these crimes. The RCPD is looking for information on the whereabouts of Barrett Stokes, 20-years-old of Manhattan. Stokes stands approximately 5 feet, 11 inches tall and weighs approximately 175 pounds. Officers with the Riley County Police Department arrested Kody Nations, 22, of Ogden and Michael Cossey, 19, also of Ogden, on Thursday at approximately 9:30 p.m. while in the 2600 block of Farm Bureau Road. Nations was arrested for possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of marijuana. TOPEKA — A coalition of Kansas clergy has offered a petition to Gov. Sam Brownback’s administration asking the governor to rescind an executive order attempting to halt the relocation of Syrian refugees in the state. The Wichita Eagle reported Wednesday that the group representing more than 50 Kansas churches says the order impedes their religious liberty to help refugees. PITTSBURG — The Kansas Lottery has granted an extension to a planned state-owned casino for a second time due to a lawsuit filed by Cherokee County and another casino company that wanted the contract to build and run it. The Joplin Globe reports that the lottery granted a 90-day extension to the Kansas Crossing Casino and Hotel Wednesday. The casino was originally supposed to open in July 2016. WICHITA — A south-central Kansas lawmaker has sent an email to constituents criticizing media coverage of the rights of gay couples in the state’s foster care system. Republican Sen. Forrest Knox from Altoona said in the email sent Wednesday that the media prioritizes gay rights over the needs of foster children. Knox chairs a special committee on foster care that last month reviewed research by Catholic priest and sociologist Donald Paul Sullins on the fitness of same-sex couples to foster.
