A Manhattan woman faces a theft charge in Pottawatomie County following her Monday arrest by Officers with the Riley County Police Department. 24 year old April Garner was taken into custody at the Riley County Police Department for the offense of theft of property or services listed on a warrant from Pottawatomie County. At last report she was still confined at the Riley County Jail. Garner faces two pending cases in Pottawatomie County with the most recent from June of this year involving Fritzon and Freiling Auto Sales. The Manhattan Fire Department responded to a fire at an apartment building on Halloween night shortly after 7:30. Crews arrived at 926 Bluemont Ave. #9 for a report of an extinguished kitchen fire. Crews entered the apartment to ensure the fire was extinguished. One resident of the apartment was home at the time, and was uninjured. The building has an estimated loss of $10,000 with an additional $100 in damage to contents in the apartment unit. Although election day is still eight days away, thousands of Riley County residents have already made their choices. Riley County clerk Rich Vargo announced to county commissioners Monday morning that over 3,900 advance voting ballots had been filled out. Vargo says this election is on track to match and possibly surpass turnout seen in the 2012 general election between former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney and President Barack Obama. HESSTON — Authorities say investigators found three people shot to death outside a rural home in central Kansas, and an unharmed 18-month-old child was found inside. Sheriff Townsend Walton says a passing motorist reported seeing bodies on the driveway of the home near Hesston in Harvey County on Sunday night. Walton says he believes the shootings happened earlier that day. Walton says the victims were a man in his 50s, and a woman and man in their mid-30s. A number of arrests occurred over the past few days. Firstly, a 35-year-old Blue Rapids woman was apprehended Friday. Debra Schrater was arrested in Blue Rapids, on a warrant for extradition with “no bond” from Ogden, Utah. RCPD arrested 37-year-old Chad Russell Saturday. The Manhattan man was located in the 900 block of Hayes Drive and charged with the offense of probation violation, which was listed on a warrant with a bond of $10,000.00. BURLINGTON — Crews have completed the first phase of a large-scale dredging project at an eastern Kansas reservoir. The Emporia Gazette reports that the John Redmond Reservoir dredging project, which began in May, involves dredging sediment from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers reservoir, which is a supply source to 19 communities and six industrial users. The dredging project began after a study determined the water supply needs in the region could not be sustained during a 1950s-like drought, and dredging up the sediment to restore water supply storage was the best option. Clyde Run is in its 5th year as the organization’s main fundraising event. Through an increase in sponsorship and participation, the fundraiser is close to reaching $100,000 in its 5 year existence.
