A Manhattan man was hospitalized Sunday after being struck by a vehicle in the early morning hours. Riley County Police say officers were called to the 200 block of Westwood Road at about 3:43 a.m. on Aug. 24 for an injury crash. When they arrived, they found 44-year-old Clark Trawick had been hit by an unknown vehicle. Trawick was taken by Riley County EMS to Via Christi Hospital for treatment of major injuries before being transferred to Stormont Vail Hospital in Topeka. Further investigation revealed the suspect vehicle was a 2008 Honda Pilot. The case remains under investigation. Click here…

Jasmine Nared, 35, of Manhattan, was arrested on August 24, 2025 at approximately 12:26 p.m., in the 1800 block of Cassell Road in Manhattan on a Pottawatomie County District Court warrant for failure to appear. She was issued no bond and is no longer confined in the Riley County Jail at the time of this report. Authorities say one person is dead following a plane crash near Concordia Sunday evening. According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, the crash involved a single-engine aircraft that took off from the Concordia airport shortly before 7:30 p.m. when a possible mechanical issue occurred. The plane lost altitude and nose dived into the ground. The pilot, 76-year-old David Kadel, of Concordia, died at the scene. Further details are pending a KHP investigation.

A 14-year-old girl was injured in a single-vehicle crash Friday morning north of Harveyville. According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, the crash happened around 7:13 a.m. on Harveyville Road, about four-tenths of a mile north of Headwater Road. Troopers say a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado, left the roadway to the right, overcorrected, reentered the road, and then overcorrected again before overturning. The 14-year-old was taken to Stormont Vail Hospital in Topeka with suspected minor injuries. Her passenger, an 11-year-old girl, also of Harveyville, was not hurt. By Rose Gruenbacher The state’s prosecution of Clark Petersen in Riley County District Court revealed two of his alleged victims were not only patients of Petersen, but also personally knew him and his family well. Petersen, a former Manhattan chiropractor, is on trial for 60 counts of alleged sex crimes against 18 victims. Four counts previously included were dismissed by the prosecution. The Mercury does not identify victims of sexual crimes. Victim 10 and Victim 11 said their family had known Petersen’s for multiple years and often spent time together.
