The K-State Cycling Club held its second annual Cycling marathon which involves cycling for 11 straight hours. in support of the Anthony Bates Foundation. Vice President, Steven Howard says the club began the challenge two years ago after a life-changing cardiac event during which he had a very accelerated heartbeat. Howard was able to recover and begin riding again and he says he’s been training all summer for this year’s event. Officers with the Riley County Police Department arrested 22-year old Devin Field, of Manhattan for the offenses of cultivation of controlled substances, possession of methamphetamine precursors, possession of opiates, opium, or narcotic drugs, and the use of a communication facility to facilitate a drug transaction. He was given a bond of $15,000.00 after being arrested in the 800 block of Vattier Street at apporximately 1 a.m. Friday. KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP)– Carlos Carrasco had his A-plus stuff and overpowered the Kansas City Royals’ B-team. Carrasco pitched a one-hitter, allowing only a seventh-inning single, and struck out a career-high 15 to lead the Cleveland Indians over the Royals 6-0 Friday night. The AL Central Champion Royals didn’t come close to a hit until Alex Rios lined a single to center with one out in the seventh. At approximately 6:30 a.m. Friday St. George Police Officer Charles was on routine patrol when he spotted a vehicle committing a traffic violation. Upon attempting to stop the vehicle a short pursuit followed. The vehicle was located a short time later abandoned in the 100 block of S. Jackson in St. George. The two occupants fled on foot. TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) A man accused of helping a Topeka police officer’s killer escape is scheduled to go on trial next year. The Topeka Capital-Journal reports that the trial of 31-year-old Randy Allen Ridens Jr., of Topeka, will begin Feb. 29. The date was set Thursday during a hearing in Shawnee County District Court. Ridens is charged with obstructing apprehension of Ross Preston Lane, who pleaded guilty in July in the September 2014 slaying of Jason Harwood. The 40-year-old police corporal was shot three times after stopping Lane’s car for speeding. Prosecutors allege Ridens helped Lane escape by giving him…
