Manhattan city commissioners on Tuesday unanimously voted to increase the 2024 budget by more than $2 million, going from an original $23.2 million to $25.3 million. The areas of increase are for employee benefits, fire pension, sales tax, special street and highway, and transient guest tax funds. City staff members said if employee benefits and fire pension balances are negative, sales tax would be the first line of transfer, but the remaining money would come from the general fund. From the Manhattan Mercury The Big 12 Conference named Kansas State star outside hitter Aliyah Carter as its offensive player of the week after leading the Wildcats to a sweep over then-No. 18 TCU, the league office announced Tuesday. Carter earns her second weekly honor of the season after picking up 22 kills against TCU, her eighth 20-kill match of the year, to power K-State to its first victory over a ranked opponent this season. RCPD is investigating after someone broke a window at the Eisenhower Rec Center. Officers filed the report just after 8:30 a.m. on Monday and are reporting that a known suspect broke a window at the rec center. Officers list Manhattan Parks and Rec as the victim in this case that is being described as criminal damage to property. Total loss associated with this report is estimated at $1,000.
Officers filed a report of an injury accident on November 18, 2024, at approximately 7:29 AM at the intersection of Claflin Road and Denison Avenue. Officers report 38-year-old Seth Hardy of Riley was turning onto Denison when his motorcycle began to fishtail on the wet pavement causing him to wreck. Hardy was transported via EMS to Via Christi for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. Commissioners adjusted the list before approving it, removing some items to focus on facility improvement.
