Some Manhattan city commissioners on Tuesday supported a pitch to finance a proposed housing development in northwest Manhattan. Zac Burton, owner of Fieldhouse Development, told commissioners he has submitted an application for a reinvestment housing incentive district for a workforce housing development, and commissioners John Matta and Jayme Minton said they thought it was a good plan. One person was injured in a hit-and-run collision that occurred just before 6 a.m. Tuesday in Geary County. The Kansas Highway Patrol reported an unknown vehicle was westbound on Interstate 70 near the U.S. 77 exit. The vehicle then rear-ended a Dodge Neon driven by 38-year-old Christina Murphy of Junction City. After impact the Dodge traveled off the road and struck a tree. The other vehicle fled the scene. EMS transported Murphy to Stormont Vail Health-Flint Hills Campus. She was properly restrained, according to the KHP.

Police released more details Tuesday about a man arrested Friday after a high-speed chase. Prior to the chase, police said, 23-year-old Andrew Franklin of Manhattan went on a crime spree that involved stealing from two stores and taking a gun and car from a woman’s home. On Thursday at 11:24 p.m. officers responded to a report of a business alarm activation at Dick’s Sporting Goods in the 401 Third Place in Manhattan. Three minors were responsible for a warehouse fire in Manhattan Saturday afternoon, according to Riley County Police Department officials. Police arrested two 15-year-olds — Jakeem Coopwood Jr. and Jordan Ehret — as well as an unnamed 12-year old after a witness reported seeing them running away from a fire at a large warehouse under construction in the 1200 block of Kretschmer Drive. The two teenagers remained in custody as of Tuesday, while officers released the 12-year-old to their parents. The full story can be read at The Mercury.

Kathy Crawford was looking forward to selling her wares at the Buttons and Bows Arts and Crafts Show for the first time this year, but it wasn’t to be, Her friend, Susan Brunkow, ended up operating Crawford’s booth on Saturday, taking over after Crawford died of cancer three weeks ago. Brunkow met Crawford at the Cancer Companions support group made up of Christian women who gather to assist one another as they battle cancer.
