Manhattan Regional Airport has opened two new temporary parking lots in preparation for increased travel demand expected from holiday traffic. Previously, overflow parking was available on the military ramp, but that area is currently unavailable due to construction at the airport terminal. “With terminal construction activities impacting our operations, we were in a position where we had to re-arrange some of our parking,” said Airport Director Jesse R. A Topeka City Councilman and his wife, both formerly from Manhattan, have been arrested following a child abuse investigation. Jonathan Schumm and his wife Allison grew up in Manhattan and didn’t become Highland Park residents until 2007. The two were arrested Thursday on aggravated battery and abuse of a child charges and four counts of endangering a child. Bond has been set at 35-thousand dollars for Jonathan Schumm and 20-thousand dollars for Allison. Regional leaders met in Manhattan City Hall Thursday afternoon for their monthly joint City/County/County meeting. Representatives from the City of Manhattan and the Riley County and Pottawatomie County Commissions heard presentations that discussed transportation in the region. A Leavenworth man was sentenced in Pottawatomie County District Court Thursday to a little under a year with the Kansas Department of Corrections on felony fleeing and eluding and two assault charges. Travis Doughty, 19, was sentenced to eight months on the fleeing and eluding, with two 30 day sentences on each of the assault charges against him–to run consecutively. However Doughty was granted probation for 12 months. He was assessed costs and ordered to have no contact with the victims of the assault charges. Riley County Police arrested a St. Mary’s woman for probation violation, with original offenses being drug-related. 27-year-old Kimberly Brazzle’s warrant was served at the Riley County Police Department.
