A Fort Riley soldier taken into custody in Kansas City, Missouri Wednesday in a child abuse case has been transported back to Junction City. Cyjay Echon, 22, was booked into the Geary County Detention Center in Junction City Friday afternoon. According to the JCPD arrest report, released Saturday morning, Echon’s charges include aggravated battery, intentional great bodily harm or abuse of a child under 18 years of age, and intentional torture/cruel beating/and inhumane punishment. Several area FFA members participated in last week’s 87th Kansas FFA State Convention, held at the Kansas State University Campus. Blue Valley/Randolph’s Kyle Apley completed his term as State FFA reporter, after helping lead the convention. Other local FFA members receiving recognition were Rock Creek’s Cassandra Ebert, who received a State FFA Degree. Ebert also was granted a National FFA foundation scholarship. Kevin Gwinner, professor and head of the department of marketing and Jon Wefald chair of business leadership, has been named interim dean of Kansas State University’s College of Business Administration.
