Junction City Police reported Wednesday afternoon at about 1 p.m. JCPD was contacted by Children’s Mercy Hospital, in Kansas City, Mo, in reference to a three month old infant that had been transferred from the Geary Community Hospital on this date. Information was received that the infant showed evidence it had been abused and was in critical condition. Members of the Junction City Police Department’s Investigations Division responded to Children’s Mercy Hospital and began an investigation into how the child had received the injuries. TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) The Kansas Senate has rejected a bill for raising taxes to close a projected state budget shortfall. Senate President Susan Wagle said after the chamber’s action Wednesday that legislators will need to trim additional spending from the budget. The Senate voted 30-1 against giving the bill first-round approval after members spent hours whittling it down. The measure would have raised sales, tobacco and gasoline taxes. Two highways in Riley and Pottawatomie Counties will be partially closed for bridge inspections. These lane closures are needed so that KDOT bridge crews can utilize the a special vehicle to safely inspect underneath the bridge decks.
