Two Riley County road and bridge half cent sales tax projects north of Manhattan were discussed during Monday’s county commission meeting.  Public Works Director, Leon Hobson presented the commission with requests on the two matters. The first was for an asphalt overlay project on West 59th Street and the second involves the design for the West Fancy Creek Road bridge project.  Hobson stated there are not currently sufficient funds for the Fancy Creek projects, but he wished to move forward with getting the design done.  He also shared a few pictures of this project to show where the road is…

As the Green Valley area of Pottawatomie County continues to grow and expand, the County Commissioners are spending more time assessing the needs and future plans for the district. An open house on April 29 will address proposed transportation safety improvements in the vicinity of City Park. The City of Manhattan is proposing the installation of a traffic signal and turn lanes at the intersection of 11th and Fremont streets at the northeast corner of City Park. Accident volume and traffic count at the intersection are the primary motivators for the improvements, which would also enhance access to City Park and adjoining neighborhoods. These improvements would be partially funded through the Community Development Block Grant program. A 29-year-old Manhattan man faces a variety of drug-related charges following his arrest by Riley County Police just before seven p.m. Saturday.  As earlier reported by KMAN, officers with the Riley County Police Department arrested Kevin Mason in the 2300 block of Tuttle Creek Boulevard. Mason was arrested for possession of methamphetamine, marijuana, and drug paraphernalia. He was also arrested on a Riley County warrant for criminal use of a financial card.
